The Town Board has directed Town Attorney Bruce Fickel to rewrite the contract for Town Administrator Jim White.

The decision was reached at the end of a two-hour executive session at the March 31 Board of Trustees meeting. Trustee Michael Patrick cast the only negative vote on the matter.

On March 3, the trustees agreed to renew White’s contract, with details to be decided at a later time. The Board will vote on the rewritten contract at future meeting.

Main Street Gets Grant for Roundabout

The Main Street Program has received a $133,000 grant for enhancements to the roundabout project planned at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Hwy. 56.

While speaking at the March 31 Board meeting, Main Street President Scott Banzhaf said that the grant will be used for street lighting, placing electrical lines underground and adding aesthetic elements to the roundabout.

Banzhaf also said that because federal stimulus funds are tied to the grant, there are no matching funds required.

Trustees Michael Patrick and Jeff Hindman and Mayor Pro Tem David Gregg commended Banzhaf and others associated with the Main Street Program for their efforts in securing the grant.

The Town Board also unanimously voted to approve a request for Town staff to cooperate with those in the Main Street Program to expedite the roundabout project, which the state Department of Transportation is funding.

Trustees Make Advisory Board Appointments
The Board of Trustees has approved the appointment of Tom Gavin and Eric Moe to the Utility Advisory Board. Gavin is a former administrator and faculty member of the University of Northern Colorado and Moe is a retired telephone company employee.

The Board also approved the appointment of Karen Gavin, a retired business manager, and Barb Mitteis, a Berthoud business owner, to the Berthoud Economic Resource Team at the March 31 meeting. The two appointments will bring the BERT membership to 16, making it necessary to revise the Town ordinance regarding it.

Residents Voice Concerns about Conflict
Residents who spoke during the public comment portion of the March 31 Town Board meeting voiced concerns over conflicts related to the Berthoud Economic Resource Team and the two weekly newspapers serving Berthoud.

They spoke on behalf of Town Administrator Jim White and asked that townspeople cooperate with each other for the benefit of the Town.
