Phillip DiPentino shows off his 1st place medal and award

Three local BMX riders competed in the Rocky Mountain State Games last weekend in Colorado Springs. All three come home from the three-day event with medals.

Nine-year-old Phillip DiPentino, known locally as the Flying Meatball, took top honors in his age group with gold, silver and bronze medals. Six-year-old Willy Daignault, aka Wild Willy, brought home a bronze medal for his trophy case. Gabriella DiPentino, racing in the 16-year-old category, won a bronze medal in her age group.

The riders are all members of Rocky Mountain Racing, Berthoud’s local BMX team. The team consists of boys and girls ranging from 4 to 16 years of age. Rocky Mountain Racing trains exclusively at the Berthoud BMX facility located just north of  the Berthoud High School athletic fields.
