Incident activity for 2013

January

Tuesday, January 1

BFPD responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm activation on Sixth Street. The fire crew found elevated levels of carbon monoxide in the residence and found the leak coming from the heater vent. The resident was advised to evacuate the apartment until the leak was repaired.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on Huppe Lane.

BFPD responded to a grass fire near structures in Loveland. While enroute, the call was cancelled.

Wednesday, January 2

BFPD responded to a medical call at Berthoud Living Center. The crew assisted TVEMS with medical care. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded with TVEMS to Berthoud High School for a medical call for a person with a broken ankle. The patient was transported.

Thursday, January 3

BFPD responded to a reported fire in the alley on Fourth Street. A pile of leaves was burning and the crew extinguished the fire.

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on So. Highway 287. The crew found a vehicle in the ditch. There were no reported injuries or hazards.

Friday, January 4

BFPD responded to a medical call on County Road 21. The crew assisted TVEMS with medical care. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a medical call on Indiana Avenue. The patient was deceased. The scene was left with the Berthoud Police.

BFPD responded to a rear end motor vehicle accident on Keep Circle. There was moderate damage to both vehicles. There were no reported injuries.

BFPD responded to a medical call on West County Road 4. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with transporting the patient.

BFPD responded to a reported grass fire near Horseshoe Circle and Highway 287. The crew extinguished an unattended grass fire approximately 5’ x 5’.

Sunday, January 6

BFPD responded to a smoke investigation at Berthoud Feed and Supply. There was light smoke and a strong electrical smell inside the building. The crew found a fan motor that had burned out causing the odor and smoke.

Monday, January 7

BFPD responded to a residential fire alarm on Weld County Road 3. The homeowners stated that after a power outage all of their detectors were alarming. The fire crew searched the residence and they found no sign of Carbon Monoxide or smoke.

BFPD responded to a medical call for a sick person on Riverside Court. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care.

BFPD responded to an outside odor investigation in the area of W. County Road 4 between S. County Road 21 and 23e. The report was of a strong smell of natural gas. The crew did not find any source of the odor.

Tuesday, January 8

BFPD responded to a medical call on Second  St. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care and the patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a possible dive rescue near mile marker 326 on Highway 287. Two geese hunters were found in blinds on the ice on Loveland reservoir. The hunters advised the crews that they were no longer in need of assistance.

BFPD responded to an activated alarm at the medical office on Mountain Ave. This was a false alarm caused by construction in the office area.

Wednesday, January 9

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on E. County Road 8 for a patient having chest pain. The patient was transported.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call at the Berthoud Living Center. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to Thundering Peaks Drive for an individual with abdominal pains. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care and the patient was then transported.

BFPD responded to a report of a 10-week-old child locked in a running vehicle on Gunn Ave. The vehicle’s heater on. Larimer County Sheriff was on scene and had contacted three locksmiths. Three minutes after the arrival of the fire crew, a locksmith arrived and quickly unlocked the vehicle. The child had no signs of hyperthermia.

Thursday, January 10

BFPD responded to a medical call on Fourth St. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care and the patient was transported.

Friday, January 11

BFPD responded to a medical call for a person with diabetic problems in the 1300 block of Fourth St. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care.

Saturday, January 12

BFPD responded to a single vehicle accident on Interstate 25 at mile marker 252. As the crew arrived the call was cancelled.

Sunday, January 13

BFPD responded with Loveland Fire to Weld County Road 3 on a report of an explosion in a home resulting in a fire. The homeowner led the crew to a small studio apartment that was on the side of a garage. There was smoke coming from the exterior wall. The smoke was found to be coming from a crawl space below the structure. The fire had already extinguished but the crews made cuts to the floor structure to get charred and smoldering material out of the walls. BFPD responded to a medical call on Sioux Drive for an individual with breathing problems. The crew assisted TVEMS with medical care and the patient was transported.

Monday, January 14

BFPD responded to a medical call on Bennet Road. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care and the patient was transported.

Tuesday, January 15

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call on Doyle Dr. The patient had sustained a head injury due to a fall from a ladder.

BFPD responded to an outside gas leak on Mount Meeker Ave. A natural gas line had been cut by a contractor putting in a sewer line at a new residence under construction. Xcel Energy was notified and they responded to repair the line.

Wednesday, January 16

BFPD responded to a Carbon Monoxide alarm on Mount Meeker Ave. The fire crew checked the residence and found no readings of CO.

Thursday, January 17

BFPD responded to Berthoud Elementary School for a fire alarm. There were no signs of fire when the crew arrived at the school. The smoke alarm had been activated by steam coming from the kitchen area. The alarm was reset and the crew cleared the scene.

BFPD responded to Second St. for a medical call. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care and the patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a reported grass fire. A welding crew had accidentally ignited the grass near their worksite. By the time the fire crew arrived, the welding crew had extinguished the fire.

Friday, January 18

BFPD responded to a medical assist for a patient who had fallen on Tenth St.

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call at the Berthoud Living Center. The fire crew assisted with transporting the patient.

Saturday, January 19

BFPD responded to a concern of possible carbon monoxide poisoning on Redwood Circle. Two residents in the home were experiencing unusual symptoms. The fire crew searched with the monitor but did not find elevated readings in the home. TVEMS responded to evaluate the patients and the fire crew cleared the scene.

BFPD assisted a patient who walked into Station 1 with concerns about a bee sting reaction. TVEMS was notified and the crew assisted with medical care. The patient was transported.

Sunday, January 20

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call on Foothills Drive.

Monday, January 21

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call on E. County Road 2. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to the Subway restaurant for a person found unconscious on the floor. The crew assisted TVEMS with medical care and the patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a gas odor/leak on Meining Road. The fire crew did not find elevated levels of CO in the residence.

Tuesday, January 22

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call at the Berthoud Living Center. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a medical call on Spartan Ave.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on West County Road 8E. The patient was transported.

Wednesday, January 23

BFPD responded to an alarm fire on Foothills Drive. The smoke alarms were activated when the crew arrived. A search of the residence for signs of smoke or CO found nothing. A faulty detector was located and the batteries were replaced.

Thursday, January 24

BFPD responded to a medical call on Fifth Street for an unconscious person. The crew assisted TVEMS with medical care and the individual was transported.

BFPD responded to a reported grass fire on Lincoln Avenue in Loveland. Berthoud crews worked alongside Loveland Fire. The grass fire was moving in the direction of a large mulch pile and structures. Once the fire was contained, the Berthoud crew was released from the scene.

BFPD responded to an odor investigation in a residence on N. County Road 17. The fire crew searched the home but did not find any elevated levels of propane or gas.

BFPD responded to a medical call on West County Road 4. A person had fallen and had a dislocated hip. The crew assisted TVEMS with medical care and the patient was transported.

Friday, January 25

BFPD assisted a person who had fallen at the Berthoud Area Community Center. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care.

BFPD responded to a report of a controlled burn that appeared to be out of control in the area of Bunyan and First Street. The crew found a ditch burn that was unattended and approaching a wood sign and a parking lot full of cars. The fire was extinguished. The responsible party arrived with a water truck to douse the fire. The crew explained the rules of not leaving a fire unattended.

BFPD was later notified of a report of a grass fire that was approaching trees on First Street. The crew had responded earlier in the day to the same controlled burn which was now moving into a grove of large cottonwood trees along the ditch. The crew quickly extinguished the flames that were impinging on a large cottonwood tree.

BFPD responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Interstate 25 at mile marker 249. This was a 3-car accident. There were no reported injuries.

BFPD responded to a report of a grassfire at the corner of County Road 13 and County Road 10. The crew found a smoldering remnant of a fence post that was ignited by a ditch burn earlier in the day. The fire was extinguished.

Saturday, January 26

BFPD investigated a reported smoke odor in the area of Fourth Street and Cedar Avenue. The crew searched the area thoroughly without detecting any signs of smoke.

BFPD responded to a report of a grass fire on County Road 10. This was a smoldering rekindle from a previous grass fire. The crew extinguished the smoldering fire.

BFPD responded to a report of an odor of natural gas near Interstate 25. The crew searched the area, but did not smell any natural gas.

Sunday, January 27

BFPD responded to an odor investigation in a residence on Welch Avenue. The crew investigated but did not find any source of odor in the home.

BFPD responded to Campion with Loveland Fire to a report of a structure fire on Arthur Avenue. The crews were unable to locate any incident.

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call on S. County Road 21 for a female who sustained a head injury after being thrown from a horse. The patient was transported.

Monday, January 28

BFPD responded to a medical call on Colorado Ave. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a medical call for cardiac arrest on E. Highway 56. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care. The patient was transported.

Tuesday, January 29

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on County Road 17 and Highway 287. The vehicles sustained moderate damage and there were no reported injuries.

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a person on Weld County Road 5 who had fallen. The fire crew assisted with patient care.

Wednesday, January 30

BFPD responded to a report of carbon monoxide in a residence on Meining Road. The fire crew did not find any signs of carbon monoxide in the hone. The homeowner, who was feeling ill, was assessed by the crew and TVEMS.

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call on Bothun Road.

BFPD responded to a report of carbon monoxide in a residence on Meining Road. The crew searched the home again and did not find any source of carbon monoxide.

Thursday, January 31

BFPD responded to a medical call on Fairways Dr. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a medical call on Eighth St. for a person who had fallen and needed assistance.

Friday, February 1

BFPD responded to another report of carbon monoxide in a residence on Meining Road. The crew did not find any levels of carbon monoxide in the home. Larimer County Sheriff Officer also responded due to the frequency of calls.

Saturday, February 2

BFPD responded to a medical call for a possible broken hip on Megan Circle. The crew assisted TVEMS with loading the patient.

Sunday, February 3

BFPD responded to a medical call on S. Highway 287. The patient was transported.

Monday, February 4

BFPD and TVEMS responded to a medical call on Sioux Dr. for breathing problems.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on Weld County Road 5. The patient was transported.

Tuesday, February 5

BFPD responded to accidental fire alarm activation at AppleLeaf assisted care on First St.

BFPD responded to a hazardous material spill on Versaw Court. The crew found approximately five gallons of recycled oil on the ground.

Wednesday, February 6

BFPD assisted a citizen with smoke detectors at their residence on Nebraska Ave.

BFPD responded to a medical call on Highway 56 for a person having chest pain. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care. The patient was transported.

BFPD and TVEMS, at the request of the Berthoud Police, responded to a medical call on Massachusetts Avenue.

Thursday, February 7

BFPD responded to a reported gas leak on Meining Road. There were no levels of carbon monoxide found in the residence.

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on W. County Road 14 and 21.  A vehicle was found in the ditch with the vehicle’s front end submerged in ice and water.  There were no injuries reported.

Saturday, February 9

BFPD responded to a reported odor in the area of Highway 287. The crew was unable to find a source of odor.

BFPD responded to a report of smoke in the area of First St. and Indiana Ave. The fire crew searched the area and found a fire burning in a fire pit on First Street.

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 25 at mile marker 249. This was a three-vehicle accident with moderate damage and no injuries reported.

BFPD responded to a medical call for an asthma attack on the Interstate 25 frontage road. The crew assisted TVEMS with patient care.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on Sixth St.  The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a medical call for a person with chest pain on Fairways Dr. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical care. The patient was transported.

Sunday, February 10

BFPD assisted a citizen on Turner Ave. with their smoke detectors in the residence.

BFPD responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Interstate 25 at mile marker 251. This was a single-vehicle rollover with heavy damage and the driver had been ejected from the vehicle. The driver was found deceased about 100 yards from where the vehicle had come to rest. There were no other parties involved in the accident.

Monday, February 11

BFPD responded to a carbon dioxide alarm in a residence on Second St. The fire crew did not find levels of CO in the home but did recommend that the homeowner replace the alarm.

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Crestridge Dr. A single vehicle was found off the roadway with moderate damage and no injuries were reported.

BFPD responded to a reported residential structure fire on Wilshire Dr. The responding crew found no signs of fire. The homeowner had burnt some food and caused smoke to fill the rooms.

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call on Maureen Drive for an individual with abdominal pain. The patient was transported.

Tuesday, February 12

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call on Horseshoe Circle. The patient was transported for hip pain.

BFPD responded to a grass fire covering approximately ¼ acre on Little Thompson Drive. Grass and several large downed tree stumps and trunks were smoldering. The crew extinguished the fires and educated the homeowner of burn permit and open burning restrictions for future use.

BFPD crew responded with TVEMS to a medical call for chest pain on Blue Mountain Ave. The patient was transported.

Wednesday, February 13

BFPD responded to a medical call on Weld County Road 7. The crew assisted TVEMS with medical care and the patient was transported.

Thursday, February 14

BFPD responded to the Berthoud Living Center to investigate a complaint of a gas odor in one of the rooms. The crew searched the area and the attic, but no hazards were found.

BFPD responded to a medical call on Blue Mountain Ave. A person had fallen and the crew assisted TVEMS with transporting the patient.

BFPD responded to a medical call on Ninth St. The fire crew assisted TVEMS with medical assistance and the patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a fuel spill on Sixth Street. The crew determined that the concern was a large amount of exhaust from a bucket truck in the area and fogging the area

Friday, February 15

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 287. This was a 2-vehicle accident with heavy damage to both vehicles and two fatalities. One vehicle was found on its roof. The driver of the second vehicle was deceased at the scene. The passenger was extricated and transported. Two persons from the rolled-over vehicle were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Saturday, February 16

BFPD responded to a medical call at the Berthoud Living Center. The patient was transported.

Sunday, February 17

BFPD responded to a fuel spill on County Road 7.

BFPD assisted a citizen on Mill Creek Road.

BFPD responded to a residential fire alarm on Gateway Park Lane. This was a false alarm caused by burnt food.

BFPD responded with Loveland Fire to a structure fire on California Ave. The fire was coming from in and around the fireplace. Berthoud Fire assisted Loveland Fire in extinguishing the fire.

Monday, February 18

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on Aspen Dr.

BFPD responded to a report of a natural gas well leaking. The crew investigated the area and nothing was found.

BFPD responded to a grass fire near Yellowstone Dr. and Highway 287. This was a ¼ acre grass fire burning with 2-3 foot flame lengths. The fire crew extinguished the fire and cleaned the area.

BFPD responded to a report of a gas leak on Meining Road. The homeowner met the crew and informed them that the gas line was struck with a backhoe while digging for a water line. The leak was secured until Xcel Energy could make a repair.

Tuesday, February 19

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a request for medical assistance on Seventh St. The patient was experiencing difficulty breathing and was transported.

Wednesday, February 20

BFPD responded to a fire alarm at Berthoud High School. The smoke detector had been activated in the kitchen by steam from the dishwasher which had then set off the fire alarm.

BFPD responded to a carbon monoxide concern in a residence on Bruce Dr. The crew did not find any elevated levels of CO.

BFPD responded to a report of a gas odor at the First United Methodist Church. The crew found a small leak coming from the shut off valve on the meter. Xcel Energy responded and repaired the leak.

Thursday, February 21

BFPD responded to a single vehicle roll over on First Street. A truck was found on its side with the driver out of the vehicle uninjured.

BFPD responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 56. There were no injuries.

Saturday, February 23

BFPD responded to a reported grass fire near County Road 6. The crew found a small grass fire with a large amount of smoke. This was a controlled burn.
