Incident activity for March 2012

Thursday, March 1

BFPD was called to Fifth St. for a possible chemical hazard. The crew found two 55 gallon drums filled with unknown chemicals and they advised the responsible party to contact a haz-mat mitigation company to remove the drums.

BFPD and TVEMS responded to a medical call for a person who had fallen down some stairs on East Colorado Ave. The patient was transported.

Friday, March 2

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call at the Berthoud Living Center. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 287 and First St. A single vehicle was on its side in the ditch west of the highway. There were no injuries reported from the accident.

Saturday, March 3

BFPD assisted TVEMS with lifting a patient on First St.

Sunday, March 4

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call on Schofield Road.

Monday, March 5

BFPD responded to a medical call on Welch Ave.  A person was found conscious and breathing but not responsive. The crew assisted TVEMS with transporting the patient.

BFPD responded to a smoke odor investigation in the area of West County Road 4 and County Road 21. A large plume of smoke was coming from the area where a large field had been previously burned and the area was still smoldering. An open burn permit was issued for the area of N. 83rd and Yellowstone Road. The burn was being tended by several individuals.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on West County Road 10E.

Thursday, March 8

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident just north of Wilfred Road on Weld County Road 1. A single vehicle had rolled and was on its side with moderate damage to the vehicle. The driver was out of the vehicle lying in the field. The driver was transported.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call for a person on Elmwood St. with breathing problems. The patient was transported.

Friday, March 9

BFPD responded to a reported grass fire at mile marker 249 of Interstate 25. The crew arrived in the area and could not locate any fire.

The fire crew assisted TVEMS with a medical call at the Berthoud Community Center for a patient who had fallen and injured her head.

BFPD responded to 9th St. to a report of smoke in the area. The crew was unable to find any smoke but decided that a barbeque at a residence on 9th St. may have caused the alarm.

BFPD responded with TVEMS for a medical call on Welch Ave. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a reported grass fire next to the intersection of County Road 10 and County Road 21. A small grass fire was moving slowly in short grass. The crew extinguished the fire.

BFPD assisted a citizen in a residence on West County Road 8E.

Saturday, March 10

BFPD responded to North County Road 17 for a power pole that had caught fire during a controlled burn. The crew called Poudre Valley REA to disconnect the power.

Sunday, March 11

BFPD crew responded to a single motor vehicle rollover accident on the east side of Highway 287 and W. County Road 8. One patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a grass fire reported on East Iowa Ave. The homeowner was advised that a permit was needed before burning.

Monday, March 12

BFPD responded to a report of a fire near County Road 2E and County Road 15 called in by a railroad employee. A small smoldering fire was found in a manure pile that was burning from an earlier controlled burn. The crew extinguished the fire.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on Second Street for a person having breathing difficulties. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident at County Road 21 and West County Road 8. Two vehicles were involved, both having moderate damage. There were no injuries reported.

BFPD responded to a reported grass fire near County Road 15 and Wilfred Road. Some smoldering spots from a previous ditch burn were found. The embers were extinguished and the homeowner was informed to have a burn permit for any future burns.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on Weld County Road 38. The patient was transported.

BFPD responded to a structure fire on Second Street. The occupant of the single family mobile home informed the crew they had attempted to extinguish a fire and opened a window to clear the smoke. The crew found heavy fire in the rear of the home. The fire was extinguished.  The fire was determined to be accidental in origin.

Tuesday, March 13

BFPD responded to a structure fire at the same address as the fire on the previous evening.  Light smoke was coming from the roof.  The fire was extinguished and the crew conducted salvage and overhaul of the entire structure.  The restoration company was notified and when they arrived, the crew cleared the scene.

BFPD responded to a two vehicle accident at West County Road 8 and Highway 287. Both vehicles had moderate to mild damage. There were no reported injuries. The fire crew assisted with traffic control.

BFPD responded to a reported grass fire near Weld County Road 5 and Weld County Road 40.5. The crew found an approximately 100’x20’ grass fire moving along a ditch bank with 8’ flame lengths. The crew extinguished the fire and searched for any remaining hot spots before clearing the scene.

Thursday, March 15

BFPD responded to a medical call for cardiac arrest at the Berthoud Living Center.

BFPD responded to a propane alarm in a residence on Weld County Road 3. The crew was unable to detect any levels of propane in the home.

BFPD responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Interstate 25 at mile marker 247.  A single vehicle was off the road with no apparent damages and no occupants were found.

[2]BFPD responded with Loveland Fire to a vehicle fire on Snug Harbor Court in Campion.  A recreational vehicle was fully involved with flames.  A nearby vehicle was also involved.  The Berthoud crew assisted with extinguishment of both vehicles and also extinguished a small grass fire on the north side of the motor home. Friday, March 16

BFPD responded to a reported controlled fire that had spread into a cottonwood tree on First Street and Bunyan Avenue, It was determined the fire was out with the exception of smoke coming from the root system near the road.  The crew extinguished the fire.

BFPD responded to Bunyan Ave for a report of a small grass fire.  The crew found a few hot spots in an area of a previous controlled burn.  The fire was extinguished in all areas of concern.

Saturday, March 17

BFPD responded to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 287 and Caballero Street. There was heavy damage to both vehicles. Five patients were transported due to injury.

BFPD responded to a single vehicle rollover accident on Highway 287 and North First Street.  Two injured patients were transported.

BFPD responded to a medical call on S. County Road 15.  The patient was transported.

Sunday, March 18

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call on Michigan Avenue.

BFPD responded to a grass fire on Taras Court. A small grass fire was found burning in very high winds. The fire was extinguished by the crew.

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on N. 115th Street. The patient was transported.

The fire crew sent multiple units to a reported grass fire near Caballero and County Road 4.  As units arrived in the area a fast moving wind driven fire was visible in a corn field. Several trucks were staged in the area and the fire was extinguished.

BFPD responded with Loveland Fire for a report of three juveniles in the water at Union Reservoir.  While enroute to Union Reservoir the crew was notified that all the victims had been removed from the water, therefore our response was cancelled.

BFPD responded to a medical call at the Berthoud Living Center.  A patient was transported. 

Monday, March 19

BFPD responded to a vehicle fire on Pyramid Peak St. When the crew arrived, the fire had been extinguished by the responsible party.

BFPD responded to an unauthorized grass fire on Weld County Road 3. The fire crew found the responsible party cleaning up the fire and they advised him to obtain a burn permit in the future.

Tuesday, March 20

BFPD responded to a reported grass fire on County Road 4 and Highway 287. The fire crew extinguished the blaze and cleaned up the hot spots.

BFPD responded with TVEMS to the Berthoud Living Center for a patient needing to be taken to the hospital.

Wednesday, March 21

BFPD responded to a medical call on W. County Road 10. A resident had fallen from a 10’ ladder and was experiencing back pain.  The patient was transported.

Thursday, March 22

BFPD assisted TVEMS with a medical call on S. County Road 21 for an individual complaining of hip pain after a fall. The patient was transported.

The fire crew assisted a citizen who had fallen on the sidewalk in front of Fire Station 1. The individual had injured their knee. TVEMS arrived and took over the patient care.

BFPD assisted with a medical call on East Iowa Ave. for a toddler who had a seizure. TVEMS took over the patient care.

Friday, March 23

BFPD responded to an unauthorized burn on S. County Road 15.  The responsible party was advised to extinguish the fire and to obtain a burn permit for any future burns.

Saturday, March 24

BFPD responded to a reported grass fire on West County Road 4. This was determined to be a legal and controlled burn.

BFPD responded to a legal burn that had gone out of control on W. County Road 4 and S. County Road 21.  The fire crew extinguished the fire.

BFPD responded to a motorcycle accident at Valley Dirt Riders.  The injured rider was complaining of wrist and lower back pain and was transported.

BFPD responded to a complaint of smoke in the area of N. County Line Road and E. County Road 4. This was found to be a controlled ditch burn which had ignited a large cottonwood tree.

BFPD responded to a motorcycle accident at Valley Dirt Riders.  The crew assisted TVEMS with transporting the injured rider.

BFPD responded to the previous controlled burn on W. County Road 4 and S. County Road 21.  There were some spots still smoldering so the fire crew completely extinguished the smoldering areas.

Sunday, March 25

BFPD responded to reports of a grassfire ½ mile south of County Road 31. Smoke was visible in the area but the crews were unable to locate any source.  The smoke in the air seemed to be dissipating so the crews cleared the scene.

BFPD responded to an outside smoke investigation on Gunn Road.  The crew searched the area and was unable to locate a fire or a smoke source.

BFPD responded with TVEMS to a medical call on Monroe Ave.
