Incident Activity for January 1-7

Monday, January 1

BFPD responded to the 4700 block of Crestridge Ct for a medical. TVEMS assumed patient care, the crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Tuesday, January 2

Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the 1000 block of 7th Street for a chicken coop in the back yard that was fully involved in flames. The fire crew knocked down the fire and after a quick investigation, determined that a heating pad that was keeping the chickens warm had caused the ignition.

Wednesday, January 3

Berthoud Engine 1 responded to I-25 mm 252 NB for a 2-year-old that had a seizure in the back seat of the car. TVEMS had just arrived and assumed patient care. The fire crew assisted with loading the patient for transport.

A civilian arrived for a car seat installation at Station 1. She brought her own, brand new car seat and the crew showed her how to install it properly. She felt comfortable with the install and went on her way.

Berthoud Fire responded to the 3400 Larimer Cty Road 31 for a car that had rolled from a neighboring house into an air conditioner unit on the back side of building. No one was in the car and the single car had minor damage. The crew checked for hazards, and none were found.

Thursday, January 4

BFPD responded to the 2100 block of Shoreside Drive for a medical. TVEMS assumed patient care. The patient walked to the ambulance and he was transported.

Friday, January 5

Berthoud Fire responded to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

BFPD was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

Berthoud Engine 1 responded to the 400 block of 10th Street for a 72-year-old having abdominal pain. TVEMS assumed patient care. The crew assisted with packaging and loading of the patient for transport.

Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the 1200 block of 36th Street for a 74-year-old man having chest pains. TVEMS arrived on scene and command was transferred over to them. The patient was then transported.

Saturday, January 6

BFPD responded to the 500 block of Redwood Circle for a CO detector that had malfunctioned. The warning it was giving was that the detector had reached its life expectancy. The homeowner was advised that it needed to be replaced.

Sunday, January 7

Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

Incident Activity for January 8-14

Monday, January 8

Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the 400 block of Cheyenne Drive for a medical call with TVEMS. The crew assisted with packaging and loading the patient for transport.

Tuesday, January 9

BFPD was dispatched to the 100 block of Sioux Drive for a report of a sick person. TVEMS assumed patient care, the crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Berthoud Fire responded to the 600 block of 6th Street for a person with a diabetic problem. The patient was sitting up in bed. The crew took the patient’s blood sugar, which was low. The patient was then given cookies to raise his sugar levels. Patient care was transferred to TVEMS.

BFPD responded to the 4300 block of Hawg Hollow Lane for a sick person. TVEMS took over command, the crew assisted with loading of the patient for non-emergency transport.

BFPD responded to the intersection of Hwy 287 and W. Cty Road 8 for a multi motor vehicle accident. The crew found two vehicles with moderate damage and a motorcycle with heavy damage. Both north and south bound lanes of Hwy 287 were closed. The crew use oil dry to clean up fluids that were leaking from the vehicles. Once Larimer Cty Sheriff finished the investigation, the fire crew assisted Colorado State Patrol with traffic.

While on scene of above motor vehicle accident, BFPD was dispatched to a secondary incident further south on Hwy 287. Chief 2 reported 2 motor vehicles with moderate damage, with one vehicle on its side. Engine 2 arrived and took over patient care and hazard mitigation. TVEMS assumed patient care, scene was then turned over to Colorado State Patrol.

BFPD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at S. Taft Avenue and S. Cty Road 17. This was a 3-car accident, rear-end style collision with moderate damage. All occupants were out of their vehicles. Responding units checked for vehicle hazards in the roadway. Colorado State Patrol arrived and command was turned to them.

Berthoud Engine 23 responded to the 4200 block of Meining Road for a 12 year old who had been bucked off of a horse. TVEMS assumed patient care and the crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Thursday, January 11

Berthoud Engine 1 responded for a natural gas leak indoors in the 800 block of Victoria Street. Firefightersl located small leak in the kitchen stove. The homeowners were advised that the strove was turned off and disconnected. The stove was red tagged for no further permitted use.

Friday, January 12

Citizen assist in the 400 block of Cheyenne Drive for a smoke detector battery change.

Saturday, January 13

Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

BFPD was dispatched for a grass/Wildland fire on Lakota Ridge. The permitted controlled burn had gotten out of control. The fire was not presently threatening any structures, but that could change if the wind direction changed. This was a slow moving one-acre grass fire, in light flashy fuels. The fire was quickly controlled and mop-up operations were initiated. The total fire area was determined to be 1.25 acres in size, with no resulting property damage. Once mop-up was completed, the scene was turned back over to the homeowner.

Berthoud Fire responded to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

Berthoud Engine 1 was dispatched to the 200 block of 2nd Street for a person with abdominal pains. TVEMS assumed patient care. The fire crew assisted with loading the patient for transport.

BFPD personnel were dispatched to Station 1 parking lot for a person with breathing problems. TVEMS arrived and assumed patient care. The crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Sunday, January 14

Berthoud Fire responded to the 800 block of Larimer Cty Road 23E for a traumatic injury. The crew found a man laying on the ground, with a woman holding a horse. TVEMS assumed patient care, the crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Berthoud Engine 26 met with TVEMS already on scene. TVEMS stated they need assistance lifting and moving a patient for transport. The crew assisted in the loading.

 Incident Activity for January 15-21

Monday, January 15

Berthoud Fire responded to a 2-vehicle accident on I-25, just north of Hwy 56. two cars with moderate damage were blocking lane 1. This was a non-injury accident with property damage only. One of the vehicles needed a tow. CDOT arrived on scene to assist. The fire crew cleared debris from road and checked for hazards. Once the roadway was cleared, Engine 1 cleared and Squad 11 assisted with traffic control.

Berthoud Squad 11 assisted TVEMS with loading of a patient in the 600 block of 7th Street.

Tuesday, January 16

A lift assist was needed in the 200 block of 2nd Street.

Berthoud Fire responded to the 3500 block of Rainbow Lane for a lift assist.

BFPD was dispatched to Hwy 287 and W. Cty Road 8 for a 70-year-old woman not feeling well. She had decided to pull over on the side of the road. TVEMS arrived and assumed patient care.

Wednesday, January 17

Berthoud Engine 2 responded to the 3200 block of Rotor Way for a sick person. TVEMS arrived and assumed patient care. The fire crew assisted with packaging and loading of the patient for transport.

BFPD responded to a single vehicle rollover on I-25 mm 249. TVEMS and Colorado State Patrol were already on scene, with everyone out of the vehicle. The crew cut the battery, no other hazards present. Colorado State Patrol cleared fire and medical from scene.

BFPD responded to a single vehicle rollover on Hwy 56. The driver of the vehicle stated that he was the only occupant. He didn’t seem to remember what had happened and thought maybe he had a seizure. TVEMS assumed patient care, the crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport. Larimer Cty Sheriff completed their investigation and the vehicle was towed.

Thursday, January 18

BFPD responded to the 1600 block of Rancho Way for a 78-year-old man having difficulties breathing. TVEMS assumed patient care, the crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Berthoud Fire was dispatched to I-25 mm 249 NB for a single vehicle rollover. The vehicle was on its wheels and lanes 1 and 2 were going to be closed. The fire crew assisted with loading the driver and passenger into the ambulance. The rocks and dirt had to be sweep off the interstate along with vehicle hazards. Lane 2 was reopened and waited on a tow to reopen lane 1. CDOT safety vehicle pushed the rolled car off the side of the road and a tow truck arrived.

Saturday, January 20

BFPD responded to Welch Avenue for a 2-vehicle accident with minor damage, and no apparent injuries. The crew looked for hazards and found none. The scene was then turned over to Larimer Cty Sheriff Dept.

Berthoud Engine 23 was dispatched to a grass fire that was threatening structures in the 1000 block of Glenview Drive. No flames were visible, and the fire was controlled by the time the fire crew arrived. Engine 23 began mop up of the fire perimeter and the scene was turned back over to the property owner.

Berthoud Fire was dispatched to Hwy 287 for a hit and run. Berthoud Engine 1 took command and checked for injuries or hazards, none were found. The vehicle was pushed out of the roadway, under the direction of Larimer Cty Sheriff. Upon arrival of Colorado State Patrol, the scene was turned over to them.

Sunday, January 21

Berthoud Fire responded to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical.

Berthoud Engine 2 responded to the 2400 block of Blue Mountain Avenue for a medical. TVEMS assumed patient care, the fire crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

BFPD responded to the 800 block of 6th Street for a sick person. TVEMS assumed patient care and the crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Incident Activity for January 22-28

Monday, January 22

Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the Berthoud High School for a male in the nurse’s office with a broken wrist. TVEMS assumed patient care. The father was to transport male to hospital.

Berthoud Fire responded to the 1600 block of Rancho Way for a lift assist. They assisted TVEMS with moving a patient from one room to another.

BFPD was dispatched to the 1800 block of Chaparro Circle for a medical. The patient was laying in the living room due to a recent seizure. The crew assisted TVEMS with loading of the patient for transport.

Tuesday, January 23

Berthoud Engine 1 responded to I-25 and Hwy 56 for a man having a possible stroke. TVEMS assumed patient care, the patient was transferred from the vehicle into the ambulance.

Citizen assist was needed to change a battery in a smoke detector. The detector was located at the front entrance of the house, on a vaulted ceiling.

Berthoud Engine 1 responded to the 1400 block of Mt. Meeker for a 7-year-old having breathing problems. TVEMS assumed patient care.

Wednesday, January 24

Citizen assist in the 4700 block of Maggie Court for chirping batteries. The homeowner stated he needed assistance in changing the batteries in all smoke detectors. The crew changed the batteries and tested all smoke detectors.

Friday, January 26

Berthoud Engine 2 responded to the 2400 block of WCR 6 for a lift assist. They assisted TVEMS with lifting the patient up out of the bed and onto the cot for transport.

BFPD responded to the intersection of Larimer Cty Road 23 and Cty Road 8 for a 2-vehicle accident. Both vehicles had moderate damage but there were no injuries to the occupants. Both vehicles were moved off the roadway, and no hazards were found on either vehicles. Colorado State Patrol arrived on scene and took over command.

Saturday, January 27

Berthoud Fire was dispatched to the 2800 block of West Cty Road 46 for a CO detector chirping. The fire crew monitored the house for any CO, but there was none found. The CO alarm was located and it was determined that the detector was malfunctioning. The homeowner had already tried replacing the batteries, but it was still chirping. The crew recommended that she replace the alarm.

Berthoud Engine 2 responded to the 5400 block of Larimer Cty Road 8E for a grass fire behind a garage. The crew found a slow-moving fire of approximately ¼ acre. The fire was quickly extinguished and mop-up was initiated. Once mop-up was completed, the scene was turned back over to Larimer Cty Sheriff and the homeowner. The fire was determined to have been started by two juvenile males lighting off bottle rockets in an open space behind the residence. The boys were issued a warning by the Sheriff’s deputy and were referred to BFPD’s Juvenile Fire Setter program.

Sunday, January 28

Berthoud Fire responded to the 300 block of E. Colorado for a medical. TVEMS notified the crew that there was enough manpower and equipment on scene.

Berthoud Squad 11 responded to the 400 block of Cheyenne Drive for a person with abdominal pain. TVEMS assumed patient care and the fire crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Incident Activity for January 29-31

Monday, January 29

Berthoud Fire responded to the 3500 block of Erving Ct for a cut gas line. No hazardous atmosphere was found with the air monitor. Xcel Energy arrived and clamped the leak.

BFPD was dispatched to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical problem.

Berthoud Fire responded to the 600 block of Mountain Avenue for a medical problem. TVEMS assumed patient care, the crew assisted with loading of the patient for transport.

Tuesday, January 30

Berthoud Engine 2 responded to the 1200 block of Turkey Walk for a citizen assist. The citizen’s CO detector was chirping 3 times, which indicated a faulty detector. The CO detector was also past expiration date.  The crew advised the homeowner to replace the CO detector.

BFPD responded to 1st Street and Welch Avenue for a gas line that had been cut. Xcel Energy arrived and clamped the line. The fire crew stayed on scene for fire suppression.

Wednesday, January 31

Berthoud Fire responded to the Berthoud Living Center for a medical event.
