Berthoud High Golf Team Competes at Beautiful Mariana Butte

Lady Spartans Place Fifth in R2-J Invitational

The Berthoud High School girls golf team competed in the R2-J league meet on Thursday at the hilly Mariana Butte Golf Course in Loveland. As a team, the Lady Spartans finished in fifth place out of the six teams competing from the Northern League of class 4A.

The Lady Spartans will compete Tuesday in Fort Morgan and Wednesday in Estes Park before returning to Mariana Butte on Monday, May 9 for the 4A Northern League Regional tournament.

Despite battling a case of tonsillitis, Berthoud golfer Brandi Peter shot a team-low 96, including a 45 on the challenging back 9. Here Peter prepares for her second shot on the par 4 7th hole.

Jesa Emerson tees off on the 7th hole. “She put up a 102 today; she’s getting close to where she can break through and hopefully that will be in a week and a half (at Regionals),” said King.

Hannah Haggis tees off on the short par 3 8th hole. “Well, (my round) started out pretty bad but I met my friend and things surprisingly got better. Haggis explained that playing with a friend helped her to relax and improved her play.  [4]
