Exhibits at the Loveland Museum/Gallery Inspire Classes for All Ages


LOVELAND- Two current exhibits at the Loveland Museum/Gallery have inspired classes for all ages to enjoy.

In the Envision: China Modern exhibit, patrons can enjoy the range and depth of contemporary Chinese art through video, photography, sculpture and painting. The exhibit has inspired a series of programs for adults, as well as a few classes for kids and/or families in the two-week long Threads to China celebration, taking place at the Museum from January 19 – February 5.  The classes for kids and/or families include:

Dragon Puppet Parade- January 26 (registration deadline January 19)

Class is for grades first through fifth at the Loveland Museum/Gallery. January 26, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Cost: $20. Register by January 19 by calling 970-962-2410 or visiting 503 N. Lincoln. Explore the culture of China by looking at the Museum’s exhibit and then making elaborate and colorful dragon puppets. Instructor: Margaret Mackie.

Zong Zi- January 29 (registration deadline January 22)

Class is for anyone over 12 at the Loveland Museum/Gallery. January 29, 10:30 a.m. – Noon. Cost: $10. Register by January 22 by calling 970-962-2410 or visiting 503 N. Lincoln. Unfold Chinese culture by leaning zong zi, a favorite holiday dish associated with the Dragon Boat Festival. Learn about Chinese traditions as you make yummy glutinous sticky rice. With sweet and savory goodies, there is something to tickle everyone’s tummy. Instructor: Sara Hayden.

Chinese Kites- February 2 (registration deadline January 26)

Class is for grades first through fifth at the Loveland Museum/Gallery. February 2, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Cost: $20. Register by January 19 by calling 970-962-2410 or visiting 503 N. Lincoln. Take flight while learning about ancient China and creating animal kites to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Instructor: Margaret Mackie.

Botanica: New Works, another exhibit at the Museum, explores the artwork of a regional botanical artists group, Studio Botanica. This exhibit has also helped create a series of classes for all ages with botanical drawing, painting and crafts at the Museum. These classes include:

Petal Painting- January 12 (registration deadline January 5)

Class is for grades first through fifth at the Loveland Museum/Gallery. January 12, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Cost: $20. Register by January 5 by calling 970-962-2410 or visiting 503 N. Lincoln. Go inside a flower! Enter the world of Georgia O’Keeffe and learn about painting petals up-close. Instructor: Margaret Mackie.

Botanical Drawings- January 19 (registration deadline January 12)

Class is for grades fourth through seventh at the Loveland Museum/Gallery. January 19, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Cost: $20. Register by January 12 by calling 970-962-2410 or visiting 503 N. Lincoln. Learn to draw realistic flowers and plants. Instructor: Mary Giacomini.

Transparent Watercolor Painting- January 20 (registration deadline January 13)

Class is for adults (ages 16+) at the Loveland Museum/Gallery. January 20, 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Cost: $65. Register by January 13 by calling 970-962-2410 or visiting 503 N. Lincoln Learn to paint watercolor florals using purple underpainting. Instructor: Mary Giacomini.

Sunflower Power- January 22 (registration deadline January 15)

Class is for ages 3-5 with an adult at the Loveland Museum/Gallery. January 22, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Cost: $15. Register by January 15 by calling 970-962-2410 or visiting 503 N. Lincoln. Get messy with paints, pastels and more creating colorful paints like Vincent Van Gogh’s sunflowers. Instructor: Margaret Mackie.

Registration for all classes is required one week in advance so that cancellations can be made with adequate notice to students and instructors.
