• Saturday, July 10 at 7:00 a.m.

“Awl You Wanted to Know about Owls” Join Naturalist Bob for a program dedicated to some spooky nocturnal critters at Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland off Hwy 34. This talk will give you insight into owls, and other nocturnal critters that have long captured people’s attention. Hike rating: easy. Program is free, no registration required. Approximately 2-hour program.

“Ravens, Legendary Bird Brains” Join Naturalist Carl for a program dedicated to the sometimes under-appreciated raven at the Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland off of Hwy 34. Carl will share these amazing birds’ attributes, adaptations, and ambitions and give insight to the management practices that provide nesting sites at the Devil’s Backbone Open Space. Program is free. Hike rating: easy. Please bring water for the trail and dress appropriately for the weather. Approximately 2-hour program. No registration required.

• Saturday, July 17 at 9:00 a.m.

“Mountain Wildflowers” Join naturalist Kathy for a wildflower hike at Hermit Park Open Space, located just southeast of the Town of Estes Park off of Hwy 36. Kathy will show you what’s in bloom and give you fun facts about each species. Meet at the parking lot behind the pavilion area to access the Kruger Rock Trail. Hike rating: moderate. Please bring water for the trail and dress appropriately for the weather. Approximately 2.5 hour program. No registration required. Program is free; however, a $6/vehicle entrance permit is required.

“Fires and Forests” Join volunteer naturalist and wildland fire educator Sue for a hike at Hermit Park Open Space, located just southeast of the town of Estes off of Hwy 36, to see the dramatic effects of wildfire. Sue will explain the importance of fire to the forest in this diverse ecological laboratory. Meet Sue at the trailhead for the Kruger Rock trail, near the pavilion area. Approximately 2-hour program. Program is free, but a $6 day use fee will apply. Hike rating: Moderate. Program is free; however, a $6/vehicle entrance permit is required. Please direct questions to Rob at (970) 679-4561.
