Eugene Bashor, 1920 – 2010


E. Eugene “Gene” Bashor, 89 of Berthoud, passed away at the Berthoud Living Center in Berthoud on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.

Gene was born in Berthoud, Colorado on October 28, 1920 to Emery Edmond and Belva E. (Turner) Bashor. He attended and graduated from Berthoud High School, class of 1938 and then went to Glendale, California where he attended Glendale City College to obtain a business and music degree. While attending Glendale City College, Gene met Betty H. Ferry and they married on December 18, 1941 in Glendale. Supporting our armed forces Gene worked at Lockheed Aircraft, building fighter planes.

Gene and Betty returned to the Bashor family farm east of Berthoud in 1946 where they farmed until they sold and moved in to Berthoud in 1977. Their retirement years were spent taking cruises and traveling around the country in their fifth-wheeler camper.

Gene had served on the Home Supply Ditch Board, Berthoud Fire Department Board and the Johnstown School Board. As a member of the Berthoud First Presbyterian Church, Gene was most active in the music department, where he sang in the choir and was one of the oldest living members of the church. In his free time Gene was an avid bowler, and was named Mr. Colorado Bowler in 1984.

Gene dearly loved his wife and was proud of his family.

Gene is survived by his wife Betty Bashor of Berthoud

Linda (Chuck) Bentzen of Sheridan, Wyoming.

Diane (Brent) Page of Aurora, Colorado

Jodie Sabin of Fort Collins, Colorado

Cremation has been conducted and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 26 at the Berthoud First Presbyterian Church. Private family inurnment will be held at the Berthoud Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Berthoud First Presbyterian Church, 531 S. 8th Street, Berthoud, 80513.
