A 1987 Ford pick-up parked at Berthoud Self Storage caught fire and the vehicle was totaled. Police contacted the owner who said that he used the truck only once in a while to camp and that white smoke had been coming from the truck that morning when he drove it to the storage site. The fire investigator determined the likely cause was a defective speed control device on the engine. The device was lying on the ground and appeared to be burned more than the rest of engine. A Ford moving truck and a trailer parked next to the pick-up received some minor damage.

There was a dual theft at the Berthoud Community Center while the Berthoud Wrestling Club was having a weigh in. The first call reported that the moneybag containing checks written to the wrestling club was missing from a box on the table. While investigating the missing moneybag the officer was contacted about a stolen purse. Neither of the two wrestling club volunteers saw anyone suspicious in the area at the time.

Amy Schmidt of Severance was apparently in a hurry while driving south on First Street. As she approached County Road 10, she crossed the double yellow line to pass the car in front of her. At the same time, another southbound vehicle in front of her was making a left turn onto County Road 10. Schmidt’s Dodge Ram 2500 was struck on the passenger side door by the turning Jeep Cherokee causing damage to the truck’s doors. She was also cited for improper passing.

Berthoud and Loveland Dispatch are still working on the ability to print summary reports from the new dispatch system. Until the reports can be printed we will be providing information only from completed reports.
