Police Beat: Jan. 15, 2009

Tuesday, Dec. 30
The Colorado Tractor Company reported the theft of a 1977 John Deere, Model 4230 tractor. Employees at first thought the high winds of the previous night had been responsible for the damage to the lock and the open gate, but then noticed the tractor was missing.

Later that same day police were dispatched to Serenity Ridge Parkway to investigate a stolen trailer. A resident had seen the trailer being towed in late November but thought the driver was looking for an entrance to the motor cross track nearby. This week he noticed the trailer in a low-lying area not readily visible from his house or the road. A check of the VIN number identified the trailer as having been stolen from Denver.

At 1:06 a.m., an officer driving southbound on First St. noticed a male urinating on a truck in the parking lot at Bunyan Ave. The aforementioned truck was in front of an outdoor seating area and in plain view of the general public. The man was cited and released.

Police were dispatched to a local restaurant to interview a woman who related the following story. She said her estranged husband had threatened to kill her and himself by ramming into a semi at high speed. When she attempted to get out of the vehicle, he grabbed her by the hair, pulled her back in, and drove home to Fort Lupton. He then attempted to prevent her from leaving by throwing away her car keys. She escaped and came to Berthoud and called the police. The police filed a Warrant for False Imprisonment, Harassment, Felony Menacing and Domestic Violence and arrested the estranged husband.

A young woman contacted police to report a missing wallet. She had been visiting friends and started shooting a paintball gun. She offered her wallet as a target and then forgot to take her wallet home. An extensive search of both her house and the friend’s house did not locate the wallet. She cancelled all the credit cards, but forgot the Best Buy card and she subsequently received a bill for a purchase at the Loveland store. The store said an unknown female used the card.
