The show opened with the middle school show choir, the Fire Choir, under the direction of Paula Latchaw. The Fire Choir sang “Fire and Rain” and “The Telephone Hour,” with solos by McKenna Hawkins, Ali Berezay, Emmie Wellems and Anna Meira.

The sixth-grade choir sang “Painless Opera” and “Operatunities,” with solos by JT Feichtner, Katie Bender, Zoe Goreski, Tory Johnson and Kristina Cavy, “On the Roof (I Saw Santa Clause)” and “A Holiday Hand Jive.”

The combined seventh- and eighth-grade choirs sang seven numbers, including three in Latin. Director Latchaw told the audience that Latin has such pure vowel sounds that it helps the singers develop their enunciation in singing. The choirs completed their performance with “Deck the Nutcracker Hall” from “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.”

The Berthoud High School Winter Concert is set for Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Admission is free.
