AG lauds failure of cell phone bill

Attorney General lauds failure of bill
that would have allowed businesses to robocall cell phones

DENVER — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers issued the following statement after the sponsor of legislation that would have allowed businesses to call consumers’ cell phones using robocalls withdrew his bill:

“Although I have been unsuccessful in my efforts to shield Colorado consumers from all non-emergency robocalls, I am pleased to see that Congress has decided not to subject consumers to even more automated calls through their cell phones,” Suthers said. “The death of this legislation at the hands of its sponsor is a significant victory for consumers.”

Suthers was one of the 54 attorneys general who earlier this month signed onto a letter to federal lawmakers asking them to oppose H.R. 3035, the “Mobile Information Call Act of 2011.”
