Spartans Top Huskies 67-45 By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer   Even in the world of sports, bigger does not always mean better. The Berthoud and Highland boys high school basketball teams learned that fact on Tuesday evening as the Spartans routed the Huskies 67-45. Even before the opening tipoff, Highland appeared to have a significant advantage in the game thanks to having trio of players who measure in at 6’4” or taller, including 6’7” senior Kyle Stuehm. Spartans Basketball Wins First Game of District

Boys Win in Overtime as Girls Enjoy Bye Week By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer After dropping four consecutive games to close out the regular season, the Berthoud High boys basketball team made a trip to Ault on Friday night for an opening round district playoff game against Highland. The Spartans, who had fallen to Highland 59-44 in Ault just one week ago, got their revenge on Friday night with a thrilling 60-57 victory in overtime. Huskies over Spartan boys

Despite 16 points by Zach Ruebesam and 13 by Greg Hutchins, the Spartans fell to the Huskies 59-44. The Spartans played well the second half, staying with in one point in the scoring. Unfortunately, a disastrous first half  had the Berthoud High team down by 14 points a the half. The Spartans were unable to make up the deficit. Box score and stats below

Lady Spartans improve to 11-4 By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer Snow, cold and a two day postponement of the game did not affect the Berthoud High girls basketball team on Thursday night as they toppled the Highland Huskies 46-21. The contest, originally scheduled for Tuesday evening, was the Lady Spartans 11th victory of the season and their fourth in the last five games.
