(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO) released the following statement upon returning to Washington, D.C. from an official one-day visit to the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba:
“On Tuesday the military flew me down to Guantanamo to see the detention facility where some of the most dangerous terrorists, such as the 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, are held,” said Coffman. “I found their treatment more than humane and see no reason to close the facility. I also reviewed how and where their trials, the military commissions, are held and found no reason to try them in civilian courts in the United States.”
The congressional delegation was comprised of a bipartisan group of members on the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees.
