DOW captures bull at large

Press Release: Larimer County Sheriff’s Department

At approximately 8:30 a. m. on Friday, March 26, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a bull running loose in the County. Sheriff’s deputies responded along with Larimer County Animal Control and the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Members of the LCSO Posse also responded to provide assistance.

The bull had escaped from a pasture near County Road 11C and County Road 30 and wandered almost three miles to the area of Ziegler Road and Kechter Road which is near both Bacon Elementary School and Kinard Middle School. The bull finally ended up in a field just to the south of Kinard.

Division of Wildlife officers tranquilized the bull a total of four times before it was calmed enough to handle. The bull’s owner, Samuel Ferrell of Broomfield, Colorado, backed a trailer up to the bull and guided it into the trailer after almost five hours. The bull was part of the owner’s rodeo bucking stock, and was immediately taken to a veterinarian for examination.

Kinard Middle School went on lock in while deputies resolved the situation. A reverse notification call was made to area residents asking them to stay in their homes.

Further investigation by Larimer County Animal Control is underway to determine how the bull got loose. Charges of Animal at Large and Public Nuisance, both misdemeanors, are possible.
