Fire Beat: Sept. 10, 2009

Monday, Aug. 31 BFPD responded to Beverly Drive for a reported vehicle fire. A truck was found in the open field with dry chemical extinguishment applied to the engine compartment. The fire was out upon arrival. The responsible party was soldering wires in the engine compartment which caused the fire. Tuesday, Sept. 1 BFPD responded to 10th Street at the Berthoud Family Physicians office for a person complaining of chest pains. The patient was transported. Thursday, Sept. 3 BFPD responded ... Police Beat: Sept. 3, 2009

Tuesday, Aug. 25 Vandalism at Berthoud High School was the subject of an 8:30 a.m. call. A drinking fountain had been ripped from the wall in the varsity boy’s locker room on the previous day. A female driver reported that another female driver was trying to ram into her car. The report came from the vicinity of U.S. Highway 287 and County Road 10E. The other female had a male passenger plus three or four kids in the back seat. The offending driver had left the scene but police are looking ... Full Story

Tuesday, Aug. 25 BFPD assisted with a medical call on 10th Street. The patient was transported. BFPD assisted with a medical call for cardiac arrest on Victoria Street. The patient was transported. Wednesday, Aug. 26 BFPD responded with Mountain View Fire to a motor vehicle accident on I-25 at mile marker 248. A semi truck was overturned. Local Resident Makes Gruesome Discovery

By Shari Phiel Berthoud Recorder Berthoud Police along with personnel from the Berthoud Fire Protection District and Thompson Valley EMS were called to the 1700 block of Larimer County Road 15C (north Fourth Street) at 3:49 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27 in response to a report of a man with a gunshot wound to the head. BPD Confirms Apparent Suicide

For the second time in only a month, tragedy has shocked the residents of Berthoud. Around 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, Berthoud Police responded to a report of a suicide at a residence on Fourth Street near Water Avenue. No details were immediately available although police and the Larimer County Coroner's office are continuing to investigate the man's death. 1642 What’s Next? No PCS This Year

For generations one of the most ominous events in the life of a member of the U.S. Armed Forces has been PCS; Permanent Change of Station. In earlier times it was the annual cycle of large numbers of familiar faces departing and new personalities arriving. I am eternally grateful to be rid of this summertime ritual. (more…)
