A special joint meeting of the Board of Trustees, the Utility Advisory Board, the Planning and Zoning Commission and BERT was held on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Brookside Gardens on State Highway 56 in ... Around Town: Songs, Soup and Stars

By Gary Wamsley Berthoud Recorder It has been a good week. We had a lot of sunshine, a little rain and some great entertainment. The Bridge Between Show Choir continued the tradition of beginning the season with the Pairs and Spares at the Presbyterian Church. I am surprised they can still sing and dance after such a meal. Perhaps they don’t indulge as much as I do. (more…)

Our Future Depends on Water Rights

Guest Editorial By Tom Lucero Candidate for the Republican nomination Congressional Dist. 4 “Out West, God provided plenty of whiskey to drink, and just enough water to fight over.” — Mark Twain Colorado is a desert. In addition, Colorado is one of only two states that depend exclusively on Mother Nature to supply all of its water; the other is Hawaii. Those two facts form the foundation for water in Colorado. BERT Chair Steps Down

By Shari Phiel Berthoud Recorder Perhaps the most salient announcement at the Tuesday, Sept. 14 Berthoud Economic Resource Team meeting came not at the beginning meeting but at the end. That announcement — Becky Justice Hemmann, who has served as the group’s chair since its formation in July 2008, was stepping down from the role. Although Hemmann resigned, she will continue to serve as a regular BERT member until the end of her term Aug. 31, 2010. “The Town of Berthoud means a lot to me, ... Full Story

1642: What's Next? Finally, A Happy E-mail Story!

By Ralph Trenary Berthoud Recorder Several times in the past year I’ve been compelled to debunk and deflate several outlandish and deliberately misleading viral e-mails. Last month I started to work on another one that hit my in-box only to find that while it was inaccurate, the truth, the rest of the story, was legitimate. (more…)

'Bums of Berthoud' Rally for Alex Sabados

By P.J. DiPentino Berthoud Recorder Over the Labor Day weekend Lexi and I had the pleasure of attending a Berthoud tradition that most townspeople have never heard of -- The BOB Party. Short for the ''Bums of Berthoud," BOB is a tight knit group of blue collar heroes. Every year they migrate to an undisclosed location to come together to help a local charity. This year’s recipient was Alex Sabados. Alex is a Turner Middle School student who is battling brain cancer   The event was ... Full Story

Police responded to a barking dog call in the 1200 block of Cedar Avenue. There had been two priors at this location. The officer parked in front of the residence for five minutes and heard nothing; therefore, no action was taken. A ... Full Story
