The Larimer County Department of Natural Resources is pleased to host a reception in honor of Barbara Moore, the 2010 Larimer County Natural Resources Visual Artist of the Year.  A grand unveiling of Barbara’s piece, “Red Mountain Autumn,” will take place on Friday, January 7 , 2011 at 10 a.m. in the 2nd floor lobby of the Larimer County Courthouse Office Building (200 W. Poudre River Trail at River Bluffs Open Space to Open

A new section of the Poudre River Trail, located near Windsor, Colorado now open for public access, for the first time.  Trail head is located on the south side of CR 32E between Larimer County Road 3 and Weld County Road 13. This ½-mile section of trail is an extension of a 21-mile section of the Poudre River Trail that connects Island Grove Park in Greeley, to State Highway 392, west of Windsor. Air Force beats Clarkson, 2-1, in Denver Cup

DENVER, Colo. – Freshman Jason Torf made a career high 36 saves as Air Force beat Clarkson, 2-1, in the first game of the 19th annual Denver Cup college hockey tournament at Magness Arena in Denver. Air Force improved to 5-6-1 overall while Clarkson fell to 6-5-2. The win was Air Force’s first ever in the Denver Cup, snapping a 14-game losing streak in the tournament that was started in 1992. Hermit Park closes December 20

  Hermit Park Open Space to Implement Winter-Season Closure The Larimer County Department of Natural Resources has instituted an operational business change for the winter months at Hermit Park Open Space. The area will be closed to all use starting on December 20, 2010. It will open again for all use on March 1, 2011. These are typically the months of lowest visitation with very few campers or hikers.

Larimer County Annual Entrance Permits for 2011

The 2011 Larimer County Department of Natural Resources' Annual Entrance Permits, for parks and open spaces managed by Larimer County, will be available for purchase on December 1. These are 13-month permits, valid December 2010, through December 2011, and allow use of Carter Lake, Flatiron Reservoir, Hermit Park Open Space, Horsetooth Reservoir, Horsetooth Mountain Open Space, Pinewood Reservoir, and Ramsay-Shockey Open Space. (Nov. 9, 2010) — The Humane Society of the United States and The Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust are offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for poaching a bull elk in downtown Estes Park, Colo. This offer adds to an existing $5,000 reward being offered by the Colorado Division of Wildlife’s Operation Game Thief. The Larimer County Open Lands Advisory Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at the Larimer County Courthouse hearing room on the first floor of 200 W. Limited Big Game Hunting at Red Mountain Open Space

For the first year, the fall of 2010, limited big game hunting will occur at Larimer County's Red Mountain Open Space. Hunting will be allowed by special access permit during the second and third combined rifle seasons (October 23 – 31, second combined season; November 6 – 14, third combined season).
