Berthoud Fire Protection District Incident Activity for Jan 19-25 Monday, Jan.19, 2009 BFPD responded to a grass/wildland fire west of U.S. Hwy 287 and north of County Road 6.  This was a 10- to 12-acre fire that was quickly contained due to the efforts of Berthoud, Longmont, Hygiene and Mountain View fire departments. Jim Schleiger Jimmy (Jim) Schleiger, 55, of Loveland passed away at Pathways Hospice Care Center on Jan. 22, 2009. He was born Oct. 24, 1953 in Fort Collins, Colo. to Donald Eugene and Orvilla Olive (Harbison) Schleiger.  Schleiger fought courageously against multiple myeloma and liver cancer. He faced these two cancers with a positive attitude, great determination and lots of humor.  He will be greatly missed by his loving family, friends, and anyone that came in contact with him. Berthoud Fire Protection District Incident Activity for Jan 12-18 Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 BFPD assisted with a medical call at the Berthoud Living Center for seizures. The patient was transported. BFPD was called to investigate a gas odor on Maple Dr. This was coming from the gas fireplace. The crew advised the owners to have their fireplace professionally inspected. Police Beat: Jan. 15, 2009

Tuesday, Dec. 30 The Colorado Tractor Company reported the theft of a 1977 John Deere, Model 4230 tractor. Employees at first thought the high winds of the previous night had been responsible for the damage to the lock and the open gate, but then noticed the tractor was missing. Later that same day police were dispatched to Serenity Ridge Parkway to investigate a stolen trailer. Fire Beat: Jan. 15, 2009

Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 BFPD responded to I-25 and E. Hwy 56 for a small grass fire. This was approximately a 5-foot x 5-foot grass fire with minimal flame lengths. BFPD responded to a reported structure fire, which was actually a controlled burn. BFPD responded to a medical call on Second St. for an allergic reaction.
