EarthSky Tonight—October 12, Arcturus sparkles in

EarthSky Tonight—October 12, Arcturus sparkles in western sky on October evenings

Courtesy of EarthSky A Clear Voice for Science www.EarthSky.org Is Comet Hartley 2 beginning to brighten? A bright star in the west in the evening in October – flashing colors – is Arcturus. Let us back up a minute. The extremely bright object in the east to southeast sky on these October 2010 evenings is the planet Jupiter. Still, many have asked about a bright star – not as bright as Jupiter, but still very bright and twinkling very actively – in the west after sunset. Jim wrote, ... Full Story

Shameless Exploitation

Shameless Exploitation

Dear Friends and Neighbors: Linda Petrie Bunch’s granddaughter, Mila, and my granddaughter, Aubrielle, star in the below video.  Aubrielle is on the left in the striped dress, and Mila is on the right.  As you can see, we have shamelessly exploited these children for political purposes.  Please let me know what you think.  Don’t forget to come back and read the rest of this email when you are done.  Please forward the video around.  I think it might catch ... Justin Smith’s Website Good and Informative

Dear Editor: I just finished reviewing Justin Smith’s web site. I have to admit, I didn’t know much about him. I originally thought he would not have many new ideas, but I was very wrong to make those assumptions. He is a family man and with his wife, is raising two sons in our community. Justin values education, community participation, and most importantly, serving and protecting the citizens of the county. He has the support and endorsements of many community leaders. I really think he ... Full Story

Clear choice for health care

Clear choice for health care

As a family physician over the past 30 years I have seen the consequences of insurance delayed care, denied care, more frequent hospital admissions and deaths of the uninsured, and more illness related bankrupties than I care to remember. For many of our citizens the quality of care is unsurpassed, but currently 50 million citizens are uninsured with huge difficulties in accessing medical care. Voters! Look carefully at what Senator Bennett and Mr. Buck prescribe for you health care: Senator ... Full Story

Senator Kevin Lundberg

Senator Kevin Lundberg has done an outstanding job representing “we the people” in Colorado’s legislature.   He believes that government should never become so big and powerful that it overwhelms our liberties with mandates, taxes, fees and endless bureaucracies.  He fought against the recently enacted car tax, the constitution-defying property tax increase, the elimination of the senior homestead property tax exemption, to name a few.  He has fought to rein in undisciplined spending ... EarthSky Tonight-October 11, Antares is bright star

EarthSky Tonight-October 11, Antares is bright star near moon in early evening

Courtesy of EarthSky A Clear Voice for Science www.EarthSky.org See Comet Hartley 2 from early to mid October 2010 The bright star near the moon on October 11 is Antares, Heart of the Scorpion in the constellation Scorpius. It is a red star, but you might not see its reddish color against the fading colors of twilight. Our chart shows the moon and Antares shortly after sunset, when they are low in the southwest. They will set not far behind the sun. North American viewers will see Antares to ... Full Story

EarthSky Tonight—October 10, Bright star near moon

EarthSky Tonight—October 10, Bright star near moon is red Antares

Courtesy of EarthSky A Clear Voice for Science www.EarthSky.org The moon is returning to the evening sky, and that is sad news for those seeking Comet Hartley. If you have a clear western horizon – tonight and tomorrow night – you can see the waxing crescent moon and the star Antares appear rather low in the southwest sky after sunset this Sunday evening. They are low in the southwest for us at mid-northern latitudes. Look for Antares, the brightest star in the constellation Scorpius, to ... Full Story

Our Economy

Our Economy

To the Editor, This is a fine mess we’ve gotten ourselves into. Both our unemployment rate and our national debt are ‘way too high, and improving either one will make the other worse. Spending money to increase jobs will increase our debt. Laying off government workers to lower spending will increase unemployment. More unemployment = less consumer spending = fewer new jobs. If we do nothing, we stagnate. The Obama Administration is struggling mightily with this inherited mess, but ... Full Story
