How To Destroy An Entire Country

How To Destroy An Entire Country

By Alan Grayson From a recent 188-page report by the World Health Organization come these ghastly and appalling factoids: Suicide rates rose 40% in the first six months of 2011 alone. Murder has doubled. 9,100 doctors in Greece, roughly one out of every seven, have been laid off. Joining those doctors in joblessness are 27.6% of the entire Greek labor force. By comparison, in the depths of the Great Depression, unemployment in the United States peaked at a lower percentage than that. Among ... Full Story

Unemployment Rate Would be 7.1 Percent Without Government Cuts March 11th, 2013 By Jason Sattler One of the biggest Republican myths of the last four years is that the government has been exploding in size. The truth is that federal, state and local governments have cut more than 750,000 jobs since June of 2009. If those jobs hadn’t been lost, the unemployment rate would now be 7.1 percent, according to the Labor Department. The total number of people employed by the government ... Full Story

Press Release WASHINGTON D.C. – Rep. Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement on the national unemployment numbers for the month of November: "It was encouraging to see a dent made in our nation’s unemployment last month, but the jobless rate remains unacceptably high. Too many people are still out of work, and businesses still worry about economic uncertainty. While the number moved lower, it masks the 300,000 who simply quit looking for employment. We have a lot of work ... Full Story

Meltdown: Episode 2

Meltdown: Episode 2

Meltdown is a four-part investigation into a world of greed and recklessness that brought down the financial world. Finally, it asks how the world can prepare for the next crisis even as it recognises ... Full Story

Our Economy

Our Economy

To the Editor, This is a fine mess we’ve gotten ourselves into. Both our unemployment rate and our national debt are ‘way too high, and improving either one will make the other worse. Spending money to increase jobs will increase our debt. Laying off government workers to lower spending will increase unemployment. More unemployment = less consumer spending = fewer new jobs. If we do nothing, we stagnate. The Obama Administration is struggling mightily with this inherited mess, but ... Full Story
