Avalanche Closes Cameron Pass

SH 14 over Cameron Pass remains closed following an avalanche that occurred last night around 8 p.m. Currently, it is snowing heavily and visibility is poor.  Due to the large amount of snow and the potential for additional snow slides, crews cannot clean up the current slide or assess avalanche risk in the area.  CDOT is working closely with the Colorado Avalanche Information Center who will wait 24 hours after it stops snowing to assess the avalanche risk and decide if mitigation is needed.  At this time, Cameron Pass will remain closed for at least another 24 hours.  Once crews are able to assess the area, CDOT will have a better idea when the pass may reopen.  For road condition updates, please visit http://www.cotrip.org or call 511.
