Plant Sale at the McCarty-Fickel House

      This weekend is the annual plant sale at the McCarty-Fickel house. The garden committee has been busy getting the plants ready! There is a wide variety of flowers, heirloom vegetables, and herbs to choose from. Everything from Patty Pan Squash to nasturtiums to Pink Caspian tomatoes will be available. Doll Collection now dressed for summer

Fran Robison returned to the McCarty-Fickle House on Thursday to put the Ladies of Loveland in their summer attire. She had most of the ladies dressed by the time the guests arrived in the evening, but had saved three of the dolls for the program. She began with Albina Washburn. She explained that even though the ladies wore different “visiting dresses” during the summer, they still wore the same type of undergarments. Albina is dressed for the 1865 period. The style of historical Colorado women comes alive for the "Change of Seasons, Change of Clothes" doll exhibition at the McCarty-Fickel house on June 10 at 7 p. m. As the seasons change, so did the elaborate outfits of Colorado's notable ladies. Petticoats, hats, and exquisitely intricate dresses were part of the daily costume of women from all walks of life in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the local ladies kept up with the looks of the time.
