First Medallion Set in Place

A creative addition to the downtown streetscape project, the first medallion is now in place at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Second Street. One of 14 medallions to be placed in the bulb-outs along the street, they will be surrounded by colored concrete when work is completed on them. The medallion design created by artist Rafe Ropek was inspired by former Berthoud blacksmith A.G. Bimson whose building is now used as the Little Thompson Valley Museum. Tuesday, Oct. 28 Police stopped a car shortly before 1 a.m. for running a stop sign. The driver was intoxicated and refused to take the tests. He was taken into custody without incident, but kicked the officer in the chest while he was buckling the offender’s seat belt and left a footprint on his uniform shirt. By Laurie Hindman The recent death of renowned local artist Sue Rupp was felt deeply in the Berthoud community. Rupp, who owned and operated an art and collectibles store in Berthoud for years, died on July 4 in an all-terrain vehicle accident. Both she and her boyfriend were riding down a steep incline in the mountains on the way to a campsite, when the brakes failed. Both leapt from the ATV before it hurtled off a cliff.
