Bridgman Named Citizen of the Year

The Berthoud Area Chamber of Commerce has chosen Peter Bridgman as the Citizen of the Year for his creativity and energy in bringing Habitat for Humanity to Berthoud. Mayor Tom Patterson presented the award to Bridgman at the Chamber's annual dinner and gala on Saturday night. Berthoud Fire Protection District Incident Activity for Jan 12-18 Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 BFPD assisted with a medical call at the Berthoud Living Center for seizures. The patient was transported. BFPD was called to investigate a gas odor on Maple Dr. This was coming from the gas fireplace. The crew advised the owners to have their fireplace professionally inspected. Tuesday, Dec. 30 The Colorado Tractor Company reported the theft of a 1977 John Deere, Model 4230 tractor. Employees at first thought the high winds of the previous night had been responsible for the damage to the lock and the open gate, but then noticed the tractor was missing. Later that same day police were dispatched to Serenity Ridge Parkway to investigate a stolen trailer. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 BFPD responded to I-25 and E. Hwy 56 for a small grass fire. This was approximately a 5-foot x 5-foot grass fire with minimal flame lengths. BFPD responded to a reported structure fire, which was actually a controlled burn. BFPD responded to a medical call on Second St. for an allergic reaction. Monday, Dec. 29 A Berthoud woman reported that her ex-boyfriend apparently posted photos of her on a Web site, along with her phone number, and now she is receiving lewd, harassing text messages and photos from people she doesn’t know. The report says that police took necessary action. A woman in the 1000 block of Welch Ave. found a man in her garage. He told her he was at the wrong house and walked off. Incident Activity for Dec. 29-Jan. 4 Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 BFPD responded to the area of N. 83rd St. and Yellowstone Road for a mutual aid request from Hygiene Fire District for a fast moving grass fire. They arrived on scene and worked with Hygiene to extinguish the fire. BFPD responded to a reported power line down in the area of Turner Middle School.  Upon arrival they found a power pole that was leaning from the high winds.  Xcel Energy was notified and responded. Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 BFPD assisted with a medical call for transport from the Berthoud Living Center. The crew assisted with transporting the patient. BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on I-25 at mile marker 252. Police Beat: Jan 1, 2009

Monday, Dec. 22 Someone picked up a loose Golden Retriever type dog at Third St. and Mountain Ave. and called police. The report does not indicate that the owner was located, but it does say that a citation was issued. Police received a call about the welfare of a dog on the porch of a second floor apartment in the 900 block of Seventh St. Police found a second house nearby that also had a dog without shelter. Two BHS Wrestlers Accused of Hazing

By Michael Hicks Berthoud Recorder Two Berthoud High School wrestlers were suspended after being accused of a series of alleged ongoing hazing incidents, according to school athletic director Rusty Mathena. According to wrestling coach Scott Pickert, Seniors Brandyn Wahlert and Saul Anderson were suspended -- one for five days and the other for 10. Timothy Holder Timothy Holder, aged 55, passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyo., of natural causes. A funeral service for Timothy Holder was held on Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Gillette, Wyo., with Bishop Klamm officiating.
