Tuesday, March 17 A resident of the 300 block of Turner Ave. reported that a neighbor came to his house and told him that his dog had attacked her dog two days before. He went on to say that she “threatened the lives of his dogs.” A passerby found a credit card in the hedgerow by the old rose farm and turned it over to the police. A caller reported a peacock 100 yards north of mile marker 325 on U.S. Highway 287. The peacock was not in sight when police arrived. Police arrested a Berthoud ... Full Story

Police Beat: March 19, 2009

Tuesday, March 10 A single car accident on Highway 56 near Pyramid Peak Ave. caused no injuries to the young driver. The 18-year-old Berthoud driver stepped on the brakes when he saw the 45 mph sign east of Town and began to slide on the snow-covered roadway. The sliding was stopped by a Qwest power pole. The pole was leaning but still standing after the collision, but the car was damaged enough that it had to be towed. Police issued a summons to the owners of a six-month-old St. Bernard puppy ... Police Beat for 03-12-09 Tuesday, Mar. 3 Police responded to a 7 a.m. call that the school zone warning light in front of Hays Market was facing north instead of west. The caller thought it might be due to wind or vandals. The police decided it was the result of the wind and repositioned the light. A resident on Victoria St. called to complain about a Hubbell St. dog that keeps coming to his yard and “using the restroom.” This was not the first complaint, but the dog was back home by the ... Police Beat: March 5, 2009

Tuesday, Feb. 24 An 18-year-old Berthoud High School student was charged with assault after punching a 16-year-old boy in the face while they were in the school parking lot. Angry because of the theft of his radar detector, the older boy had been told that it had been taken by the younger boy and accosted him in the parking lot, allegedly knocking him the ground and punching him in the face. Police Beat: Feb. 26, 2009

Tuesday, Feb. 17 It pays to report incidents to the police. While speaking with a Berthoud woman about a case, she mentioned that her grandson’s bicycle had been stolen a few weeks before. The officer recognized it as one in the department’s abandoned property and boy and bicycle were reunited. A loud hissing noise coming from the area of High Country Proco at 10 a.m. was identified as a propane tank being blown out. Police found a bicycle in the area of First St. and Indiana ... Police Beat: Feb. 19, 2009

Thursday, Feb. 12 Police responded to the area of Sixth St. Court and Bunyan Ave. to check on the welfare of a tan Corgie chained up at a residence. The caller said the dog is always chained up at this location and has no shelter or way to get out of the snow. The officer determined that the chain was long enough to allow the animal to get out of the snow and that it was able to go inside at night. Tuesday, Feb. 3 Police assisted Berthoud Fire at 211 Versaw Ct. Fire investigators said the fire was most likely caused by a faulty boiler. Two employees got out of the building without injuries. Police responded quickly to a call of suspicious circumstances at Berthoud High School. Sunday, Jan. 18 Another case of hit and run was reported in the 1300 block of N. Fourth St. It appears the suspect vehicle struck the driver’s side rear fender of a 1998 Toyota Camry while backing of the adjacent parking space and left the scene without leaving any identifying information. Monday, Jan.19 A resident of the 800 block of Bruce Ave. reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his Cobra radar detector which was in plain sight on the dash. Police Beat: Jan. 15, 2009

Tuesday, Dec. 30 The Colorado Tractor Company reported the theft of a 1977 John Deere, Model 4230 tractor. Employees at first thought the high winds of the previous night had been responsible for the damage to the lock and the open gate, but then noticed the tractor was missing. Later that same day police were dispatched to Serenity Ridge Parkway to investigate a stolen trailer.
