Fort Lupton man sentenced to 30 years to life for sexually assaulting granddaughter

GREELEY, Colo. – A Fort Lupton man, who was found guilty at trial of sexually assaulting his step-granddaughter, was sentenced this morning to 30 years to life for his crimes.

On March 3, 2011, the defendant was found guilty of:

• Sexual Assault on a Child by a person in a position of trust- victim under the age of 15 (F3)

• Sexual Assault on a Child by a person in a position of trust as a pattern of abuse (SE)

• Promotion of Obscenity to a Minor (F6)

According to police reports, the seven-year-old victim disclosed that her step-grandfather had done a variety of things to her and described to detectives incidents when he would sit her on his lap as he watched pornography, when he would kiss her with his tongue, and when he would perform oral sex on her. The victim told officers that this type of interaction had been going on with her step-grandfather for as long as she could remember.

Forensic examination of the defendant’s computer revealed pornographic videos including a video the victim had described to law enforcement officers as having watched with her grandfather.

When interviewed by officers, the defendant accused the child of being overly sexual with him.

Deputy District Attorney Hollie Wilkinson represented the People of the State of Colorado in this case.
