To the editor:

Some time ago an article written by Mark Lehan was published in the Loveland Reporter Herald, and last week it resurfaced in the Berthoud Recorder. I feel the public and Karen Stockley are entitled to an accurate response.

The facts are that Karen has been an active and informed citizen on water issues for many years, and anyone including un-named officials at Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District (NCWCD)” should know that. If the NCWCD wishes to dispute Karen’s claims, they should do so publicly rather than through a third party. Better yet, you think they’d be glad to have a candidate running who’s actually willing to write for herself on these issues, rather than to have someone else crib for her, as her opponent did with her original editorial about the Northern Integrated Supply Project (NISP).

Karen has stood for the same positions throughout the years. We don’t need editorializing presuming to know her real positions, they’re a matter of public record for all to read. Her primary solution remains voluntary conservation and cost-effective storage and, as Karen’s original editorial pointed NISP is not cost-effective.

Readers are entitled to their opinions of Karen’s positions, but certainly not to claim to speak for her. If readers want to know what Karen really thinks, I hope they’ll take advantage of her remarkably open campaign and email her at info@karenstockley.com.
