Theodore “Ted” Wacker, 86, of Loveland, Colo., passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Ted was born in Berthoud, Colo., on July 23, 1923, to John and Anna Margaret (Schaefer) Wacker. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loveland. Ted attended schools in the Berthoud area and farmed with his family until enlisting in the Army. Robert John Schleiger, 75, of Loveland died April 3, 2010, at home with his family at his bedside. He fought a courageous battle against cancer. Bob was born to John and Christina Schleiger on June 13, 1934 east of Berthoud, CO. He attended Whipple School east of Berthoud through seventh grade and then graduated from Berthoud High School in 1952.   Berthoud Fire Protection District Incident Activity for March Monday, March 1 BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on County Road 17 and US Highway 287. There was heavy damage to both vehicles.  One person was injured and transported.   Tuesday, March 2 BFPD responded to a reported gas leak on First Street. 9Health Fair Coming to Berthoud

The 9Health Fair will be coming to Berthoud High School on April 10, 7 a.m. to noon. There are some changes for this year. The Berthoud Lions Club is the host, but there will be no pre-registration offered in Berthoud. The entry will now be at the main entrance on Spartan Avenue and some of the tests will be in different rooms than have been used in the past. Obituary: Leslie Clyde Nielsen

Leslie Clyde Nielsen, 55 of Berthoud, died at his residence on March 20, 2010. Leslie was born June 16, 1955 in Ft. Collins, Colorado to Irma (Niemoller) Nielsen and Donald Nielsen. He worked in construction, then later for the Larimer County Parks Department as a Park Ranger, and then for the Longmont Parks and Recreation Department. The “Bean” is closed, Windy says goodbye to Berthoud

Citing the construction on Mountain Avenue, from which she never fully recovered, and facing another summer of construction, Windy Castle has called it quits. She told customers on Saturday that it was her last day. The business remains closed on Monday, but the sign on the door says the restaurant expects to reopen soon under new management. Unconfirmed reports are that the previous owner, Michelle Lebeque is planning on opening again as soon as possible.
