Attempted Burglary in Berthoud

On March 8, 2016, at approximately 6:57 pm, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 1000 block of 3rd Street in Berthoud regarding a possible burglary in progress. The caller advised an unknown man had broken a window at a neighbor’s home.

A deputy arrived a few minutes later and located the man behind a nearby home. The man was extremely intoxicated, refused to obey the deputy’s commands, and then aggressively advanced toward the deputy. The deputy used a Taser to gain control of the man and was able to take him into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as Michael Anthony Barton (10/18/1981) of Loveland. Barton was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries he sustained when breaking the window. He was later booked into the Larimer County Jail on the following allegations (bond $250):

Criminal Mischief – Class 2 Misdemeanor;
Obstruct Peace Officer – Class 2 Misdemeanor;
2
nd Degree Criminal Tampering – Class 2 Misdemeanor;
2
nd Degree Criminal Trespass – Class 3 Misdemeanor; and
Two outstanding misdemeanor warrants (bonds $150 / $250).

The charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
