Obituary: Melvin Brown
Melvin “Mel” Walter Brown of Johnstown died on April 24 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He was 83. He was born July 3, 1925 to Robert and Cora (Niven) Brown, on the family farm southwest of Johnstown. His father died in August 1941 of injuries sustained from a runaway team of horses, and his family moved into town after that. Cynthia June Elijah McDonald, 63, of Loveland died April 18 after a bout with cancer. She is survived by her mother June Elijah, daughter Clarissa Norris, son-in-law Todd Norris, and her grandchildren, Tionna, Tinaya and Triston Norris. McDonald lived a very simple life and played wonderfully, by ear, many different instruments, including the keyboard, piano, accordion and harmonica. Orlene Marie Graves, 80, died Wednesday, April 8 at Holiday Resort in Emporia, Kan. She was born on Oct. 14, 1928 in Haven, Kan., to Mary and Orla Koontz. She graduated from haven High School in 1946. She had one sister, Eunice Pankow, and three brothers: Paul, Earl and Darwyn. They are all deceased. She married John T. (Jack) Graves on Dec. 1, 1946. Audrey Zorna, 85, of Berthoud, died March 24, 2009, at Berthoud Living Center. She was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Waterbury, Conn. to Frederick H. and Ruth Spencer (Hotchkiss) Bosworth. Audrey married Joseph R. Zorna on Feb. 1, 1944, and celebrated 65 years of marriage this year. She moved to Boulder in 1966 and lived there until 1984 while working as a nurse in the OB/GYN department at Boulder Community Hospital. She later moved to Berthoud in 2002.
