The Berthoud Rest Stop

These Canada Geese made a rest stop at the Wagner Farm Park on Monday morning. Berthoud lies along the Central Flyway, a migratory route for the geese. This flock consists of early migrators flying north following the melting snowline. Their destination is the nesting grounds in Canada. These hardy travelers travel by day or night and land to feed and rest at familiar places along the route. Berthoud’s own Marie Andrade Allison has begun her year as the 2010 Boulder County Fair and Rodeo’s Lady- in-Waiting in earnest this week at the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo. Crowned this past September, Marie will serve one year as the Lady in Waiting, followed by a year as the 2011 Boulder County Fair and Rodeo Queen. Fire Beat: Nov. 23-29

Berthoud Fire Protection District Incident Activity for Nov. 23-29 Tuesday, Nov. 24 BFPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 25 at mile marker 252. This was a three-car accident with no injuries reported. Thursday, Nov. 26 BFPD responded to a four-vehicle accident on Interstate 25 at mile marker 251. Obituary: Marion Elizabeth (Brehmer) Andersen

Marion Anderson passed away peacefully on Oct. 28, 2009 at Hospice Care Center of Boulder/Broomfield County in Louisville after a short illness. She was born May 24, 1936 to John and Rosie Brehmer in Bancroft, Neb., the fifth child born to the family, which grew by three more children over the next several years. Anderson was very active in school growing up, being a cheerleader and homecoming queen and graduating from Bancroft High School. She married Robert Eugene Andersen on Nov. 7, 1954. ... Full Story

Police Beat: Oct. 22, 2009

Tuesday, Oct. 13 A Ninth St. resident complained, “Barking dog in the back yard won’t stop.” All was quiet when the officer arrived. Police assisted when an off-duty police officer reported a hit-and-run incident on I-25. Police were unable to locate a careless driver at Berthoud High School. The silver SUV was reported to have been speeding in the parking lot and driving the wrong direction in a one-way zone.  (more…)

Obituary: Kennon Lebsack

Kennon Michael Lebsack, 52, died Sept. 20 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Tucson, Ariz., after a sudden illness. Lebsack was born March 27, 1957 to Robert and Priscilla Lebsack in Loveland, CO. He attended elementary schools in both Johnstown and Berthoud and graduated from Berthoud High School in 1975. He then attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, graduating in 1980. During his college years he worked for AMAX Mining Co. and continued with them at the Henderson Mill until transferring ... Full Story

Obituary: Michael Betcher

Michael W. Betcher, 67, of Berthoud passed away on Aug. 29, 2009 after a short battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 2, 1941 in Riverside, Calif. to Orlan Henry and Rose Adel (nee Wahlin) Betcher. He graduated from high school and served in the U.S. Navy for over 19 years. He was a long haul truck driver for 19 years. He loved traveling and was in all 48 continental states and many countries overseas. He was an avid fisherman and loved playing many sports. He lived in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and ... Full Story
