Jean Parrish, 84, wife of the late Vaughn Parrish who was an internationally known square dance caller and teacher, died in Louisville, Colo., Sept. 6 surrounded by her loving and devoted family following a short illness. Pauline Weitzel, 100, of Berthoud passed away Sept. 4 at Life Care Center of Longmont. She was born March 3, 1909, in Alexanderdorf, Russia, to John and Mollie (Mueller) Starck. She moved from Russia in 1909 as an infant to Minot, South Dakota, and in 1920 moved to Berthoud. On Jan. 16, 1927, she married John Weitzel in Berthoud. Lloyd Carl Conder passed peacefully with his family on Aug. 8 at the Life Care Center of Longmont. He was 83. Born on Aug. 11, 1925, to Carl and Opal Conder, he was a life long resident of Berthoud. Conder is survived by his sister Darlene (Bob) Botos of Loveland; daughter Glenda Conder of Louisville, and son Allen Conder of Casper, Wyo.; granddaughter Alisha (Michael) Conder, and great-grandson Tyler of Denver and several nieces and nephew. This familiar herbivorous dinosaur with rows of plates along its back was officially adopted by executive order of Gov. Richard Lamm in 1982, following a two-year campaign by schoolchildren. Obituary: Earl D. Sterkel
Earl D. Sterkel of Berthoud went to join the Lord on Tuesday, July 28 at Longmont United Hospital following complication after open-heart surgery. Sterkel was born in Loveland to Jacob and Christina Hohnstien Sterkel on March 8, 1940. He attended Loveland Schools and graduated with the class of 1958 from Loveland High School. Joyce Eleanor Scott, age 83, went to be with the Lord after a long courageous fight with Parkinson’s disease. She was born on Nov. 10, 1926 in Hastings, Mich., to Karl F. and Florence J. Furman Donald McClain passed quietly in his sleep on June 2. He was born in the Village of Lombard, Ill., to Furman Delbert McClain and Muriel Hederich. Upon graduating from Union High School in Adams City, Colo., he joined the Navy in 1942. He then served on the Lexington, Enterprise and Ticonderoga ships, was a tail gunner on the SBD aircraft, fought in a commando unit in the South Pacific and saw action from the Admiralty Islands to Japan.
