Esteban (Steve) Salazar, Sr., of Mead, Colorado was born in Eaton, Colorado in 1946 to Pedro & Nicolas Salazar, Sr. He was a loving son, brother, father, husband, and minister. In his years of growing up in Weld County, he, along with his four brothers, were taught the discipline and pride of farming. Dorothy E. Rogers, 81, passed away Dec. 13, 2015 at her home in Johnstown surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in November 5, 1934 in Weldona, Colorado to James and Ruth Ellen McHale. Dorothy married Fred A. Rogers on the land in which they both lived and died. She loved the small community and has lived here over 60 years. Dorothy Irene (Landolt) Burch, 91, of Mead, died July 4, 2011 at her home. Dorothy was born May 14, 1920 in Longmont, Colorado, the daughter of Melchoir and Maria Brigitha (Caderas) Landolt. She graduated from St. John the Baptist Catholic High School. On November 27, 1945 she married Robert Burch at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Longmont. Fire at Pioneer Sand and Gravel
The Crystal Fire may be larger, but there was some excitement in Berthoud on Saturday afternoon as firefighters responded to a fire Pioneer Sand Company. David and Julie Dowen of Mead happened to be on had to takes some photos. According to Ms. Dowen, the desk clerk told her that a customer had come into the office and said, "Hey, your mulch is on fire." The call went out to Berthoud Fire who responded to cool things off. Lady Spartans win third straight game By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer A three-week layoff did not affect the Berthoud High girls basketball team on Friday night as they topped Mead 50-34 in the Berthoud High School gym. The victory was the Spartans third consecutive and improves the team’s season record to 6-2. Zack Ruebesam scored 16 points in Berthoud's 47-55 loss to the Mead Mavericks. The Spartans are now 2-6 overall and 0-1 in league play. Obituary: Marjorie Craig
Marjorie Craig passed away on Dec. 23, 2010 at the age of 76. She was born Marjorie Nadine Yeager, March 25, 1934 in Longmont, Colorado to William Yeager and Katie Burbach-Yeager. She was the youngest of six children. Her father farmed land south east of Berthoud for 17 years, and this is where Marjorie lived while she was growing up. Robert Thomas Roark Robert “Bob” Thomas Roark died on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009. He was 73 years old. Born on April 22, 1935, in Rock Falls, Ill., Roark was the son of Jeanette (Andrews) and Howard Roark. He married Mary Jo Wright on Nov. 25, 1954, in Princeton, Ill. The couple then moved to Colorado in 1957.
