Elizabeth “Betty” McMichael

Elizabeth “Betty” McMichael, 94, of Longmont, passed away October 26, 2015 at The Bridge Assisted Living. Betty was born February 15, 1921 in Stoughton, Wisconsin to Selmer C. and Lulu V. (Osmundson) Larson.
Betty grew up the child of a college professor and lived in Wisconsin, North Dakota, Illinois, Minnesota, New York and Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College High School in 1938, Iowa State Teachers College in 1941 and received her masters of education from the University of Colorado in 1965.
Betty married Willis McMichael on July 28, 1940 in Cedar Falls, Iowa and they moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1951 and to Berthoud in 1994. She used her college education in many areas, combining housewife and mother with tutoring, being an insurance agent, owner and manager of Boulder’s Lighthouse Bookstore, published writer and finally retired from the University of Colorado as a Research Analyst in 1981.
Betty was a longtime member of Calvary Bible Evangelical Free Church in Boulder and most recently affiliated with Grace Evangelical Free Church in Longmont. She belonged to various church and literary organizations.
Her passion for writing proved to be not only profitable but a source of fun in writing family history, a cookbook with her granddaughter and teaching others to write their own stories. Her publications ranged from the technical to the whimsical.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willis, grandson Scott Collins and brother Robert E. Larson.
Betty is survived by her son David McMichael of Berthoud, daughters Nancy McDonald of Louisville, Colorado, Shirley Morris (Ray) of Tucson, Arizona and Charlotte Shields (Richard) of Lakewood, Colorado, 6 grandchildren; Kurt McDonald of North Dakota, Karen Martens (Paul) of Laird, Saskatchewan, Canada, Kevin Fanberg (Amy) of Tennessee, Bradd Fanberg of Boulder, Vicki Collins (Jeremy) of Lakewood, and LeAnna Shields of Lakewood, 3 great-grandchildren; Heather Williams, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and Logan and Emily Fanberg of E, brother-in-law Pat Kelley of Denver, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gene & Agnes Heaton of Lee Summit, Missouri along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00pm, Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Burial at 9:30am, Monday, November 2, 2015 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Berthoud. Memorial service 11:00am, Monday, November 2, 2015 at Grace Evangelical Free Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Lydia International for the support of Alex and Sharon Zorzoliu in Romania.
