Julian Lujan Huerta of Berthoud, Colorado died June 17, 2011, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 77 years of age.
He was born Jan. 9, 1934, in Berthoud, to Gregorio Aguilar Huerta and Natalia Lujan. He graduated from Berthoud High School in 1953 and then served in the U.S. Army.
He was first married to Twylah Claudette Seguine. He married Micaela Juarez Ruffier in Mazatlan, Mexico in 1997
He worked many years for United Building Centers and for IBM and served his community as a Berthoud Town Trustee. He was also Berthoud volunteer fireman for 25 years. Julian is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many church callings including a Stake Mission with his wife, Micaela.
Julian enjoyed fishing, carpentry, gardening, music and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Micaela and daughters, Kristine Farnsworth, Francine Scott, Michelle Huerta and Karla Vargas; brothers and sisters, Socorro Tafoya, Bessie Huerta, Ignacio Huerta, Rita Moreno, Gerald Huerta and Louisa Flores; and grandchildren, Kathryn Peterson, Charles Huerta, Samuel Hand, Emi1y Huerta-Roe and Jesse Hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gregorio Huerta and Natalia Lujan; brothers, Gregorio Huerta Jr., John Huerta; sisters: Modesta Moreno, Mary Contreras; and granddaughter Rebecca Hand.
Julian will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and hard worker. He loved life and liked to help others. He will be greatly missed by’ those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 30, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3800 Mountain Lion Drive, Loveland. Following the service there will be a graveside ceremony for family and close friends at the Berthoud Greenlawn Cemetery.
