Doris A. Heckert of Berthoud, Colorado went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 21, 2016. She was born to Wesley B. Heckert and Grace Mason Heckert on April 28, 1926 on a farm in Lenawee County Michigan where she loved the farm life and being close to nature. She graduated from Sand Creek High School, Sand Creek, Michigan in 1944. Kindergarten teacher Millie McCloy was taken by surprise Thursday morning when she was recognized with the Champions Excellence In Education Award. Champions’ area manager, Stephanie Roberts, used the occasion of the Berthoud Elementary teachers’ breakfast to make the presentation. It came as a complete surprise for Berthoud resident Denise Schump when she was called to the stage at Lucile Erwin Middle School at a special assembly on Tuesday. She had been nominated for special recognition by Blake Martin, a student in her eighth grade class. Blake had written a letter to the TRI 102.5 radio station, which, in partnership with K99 radio in Windsor, honors a teacher each Tuesday of the school year.
