Spartan track teams at the City to City Meet
By Denise Schump The Berthoud High school track team competed in the City to City Meet at Northridge High school in Greeley on Saturday. Several area schools came out for the meet including Loveland, Thompson Valley, Mountain View, Northridge, University and Greeley Central. The Spartan girls took fourth in the meet with the help of Courtney Mills who took first in the triple jump (35-2) and second in the long jump. Boys Basketball state finals — Sierra vs Pueblo East
It would have bee interesting to see both Longmont teams in the finals, but it was not to be as Pueblo East defeated the Trojans 59-52. Pueblo will face Sierra in Saturday's quest for the state championship. —
It is a Northern Conference Championship Game for
Broomfield and Longmont both won their brackets on Wednesday evening. Broomfield had an easy time with Conifer, winning 59-32. Meanwhile, in a low scoring game, the Longmont girls defeated Cheyenne Mountain by 9 points, 49-40. They will play the finals on Friday. With Longmont still in the final four for tonight's boys semifinals, Longmont could have two champion basketball teams.
Update on State High School Basketball Tournament
Girls Basketball The Northern Conference is well represented with Half the teams in the Final 4 of the girls basketball. The Broomfield five elimainated Pueblo East 57-41 while Conifer ended Pueblo South's bid 59-46. in the other bracket, Longmont, starting as the 4th seed, bested Cheyenne Mountain 64-54 while Mullen won 64-55 over Mesa Ridge. Berthoud High School Senior Joel Maly has distinguished himself in several sports. Most recently, his accomplishments in the just completed basketball season show he is one of the top players in the league. He was third in total points scored, fourth in points per game and #1 in 2-point field goals. Additionally, his 64% shooting average was tops among the top twenty scorers in the league. Spartan Wrestling Awards Banquet
Six Berthoud wrestlers were recognized at the 2010 award banquet concluding this year's Spartan Wrestling season. Robby Workman, Alex Sadlo, Casey Couch, J.T. Pickert and Billy Schump were given all conference top honors and Marcus Lucerco was awarded honorable mention. Scott Pickert, head coach for the Spartan team, presented the awards and gave credit for all the wrestlers who participated in this year’s successful season. Wednesday, February 24; Short-Benched Eagles Shutout Gorillas LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles -- playing with just 12 skaters -- defeated the Amarillo Gorillas, 3-0. Andrew Penner stopped 23 shots to earn the 29th regular season shutout in team history (moving him into fourth place on the team's career shutout list), and the Colorado penalty kill was a perfect 7-for-7 on the night. Saturday at the CHSAA State Basketball Tournament
Boys Basketball While Berthoud may be out of the action, the Northern Conference is well represented with three teams in the Great 8. In the Bill Weimer Region, #1 Sierra defeated #4 Northridge 88-63 while #3 Thomas Jefferson won in a mild upset over #2 Glenwood Springs.
