Berthoud Boys Basketball Falls to Niwot 73-38 By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer The Berthoud High boys basketball team dropped their second consecutive home game on Saturday evening in a 73-38 thumping at the hands of the Niwot Cougars. The loss drops the Spartans to 5-9 on the season but because Niwot is an out-of-conference opponent, Berthoud will not lose any ground in the 3A Patriot League. Eight Spartans Ranked in 3A Top 10 By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer With the state tournament now less than three weeks away, the Berthoud High wrestling team is ranked third in class 3A, behind only Alamosa and Valley. Eight individual Berthoud wrestlers (out of 14 weight classes) are ranked in the top 10. Lady Spartans win ugly game 39-30 By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer In a peculiar game that saw the two teams combine for 25 points in the second period and then only two in the third, the Berthoud Spartans girls basketball team topped the Strasburg Indians 39-30 in the Berthoud High gym on Tuesday evening. 48 Star Flag Dedicated at Berthoud High School

By Thomas N. The United States flag has had 50 stars since 1960, yet today a flag that bares only 48 stars was returned to its home at Berthoud High School. The flag has traveled from New York to California and numerous states in-between, but was first flown in Berthoud. The flag originally flew outside of the old Berthoud Junior-Senior High School, now Turner Middle School. The flag was returned to Berthoud High School in an impressive ceremony on Friday. By Gary Wamsley The Soeby Classic was a showcase for the Berthoud Wrestlers on Saturday. The host team won four duals on their way to the team title. The Spartans bested Mitchell HS (64-15), The Academy (72-6), Widefield HS (55-15) and Greeley Central (45-22). In the 112 pound class, Alex Kingsley ranked at 12 this week won three matches loosing only to 11th ranked Gabe Padilla of the Academy. Flag Dedication at Berthoud High School A piece of local history will be dedicated in the Berthoud High School auditorium on Friday, January 21, at 10:00 a.m. A 48-star American flag, which used to hang in the auditorium at the old Berthoud Junior-Senior High School, was recently returned to the high school after a 48-year absence.
