Florence E. Batesel Mangan, better known as “Eva,” passed away June 1, 2009 at her home in Longmont. She was 93. She was born December 24, 1915 in Verona (Barry County) Mo., to Curtis Cornelius Batesel (Hunt County, Texas) and Mary Culbertson Batesel (Wahoo, Neb.) at the home of her grandparents William H. and Sarah M. Anton (Tony) Tysdal, 93, of Berthoud died early Thursday morning at Windsor Healthcare Center. Tony was born Nov. 5, 1915, in Linn Grove, Iowa to Ole and Marie Tysdal. He served in the Navy during World War II as a gunner’s mate and was at Pearl Harbor shortly after it was attacked by the Japanese. He married Marjorie Kell on March 23, 1944 in Hampton, Iowa. Evelyn “Evee” Pfenning, 83, of Loveland, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 6, at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. Sam Withrow, 68 years young, passed away April 27 at his home in Berthoud. He is survived by his wife Christine, his only child Hope Withrow, and beloved siblings Bud, Paul, Rose, Dick, and Ruth. Melvin “Mel” Walter Brown of Johnstown died on April 24 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He was 83. He was born July 3, 1925 to Robert and Cora (Niven) Brown, on the family farm southwest of Johnstown. His father died in August 1941 of injuries sustained from a runaway team of horses, and his family moved into town after that.
