        Last week President Obama signed an executive order allowing states to "opt out" of the reading and math requirements of No Child Left Behind. After all, who needs to know math when everyone has their own calculator. And kids don't need to read when they've got video games.     Lyons took the early lead with 2 runs in the first inning. The Spartans came back to tie the score in the second and held the Lions scorless as the Berthoud 9 add 5 more runs.

        The gravity of the current situation in our school district is one key reason to vote yes on 3A, the Mill Levy Override. Unfortunately, it is quite frequent that a student comes into the counseling office with everything under the sun going wrong. Berthoud Football Bests Fort Lupton 27-14 By Dan Karpiel Sports Writer   If there exists such a thing as an ugly win in the world of sports, the Berthoud High football team experienced it first-hand on a warm Friday evening at Bob Felps Field in Fort Lupton. Despite topping Fort Lupton by a score of 27-14, the Berthoud team was, to put it mildly, disappointed with a performance in which they were flagged a whopping 15 times.
