Obituary: Walter Fredrick Meyer

Walter MeyerWalter “Pops” Frederick Meyer passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. He was born in Pender, Nebraska, on August 10, 1920, to August and Ida Meyer. He was the youngest of 11 children. He farmed his family’s land until 1962 when he moved to Loveland. In 1970, he married and started a family with Carmen Powell and her four children. Walt worked as a business owner and general handyman for many years. After he retired, he and Carmen enjoyed being campground hosts in the Poudre Canyon, where they met several life-long friends. He is survived by his sister Dorothea Meyer; his wife, Carmen Meyer; his four children: Jan Harris (Tom) of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Jean Powell of Loveland; Jill Powell of Fairbanks, Alaska; Jim Powell of Loveland; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Walt loved the outdoors and could often be found tending his garden with his family. He kept busy volunteering for Meals on Wheels, was a member of the Berthoud Lions Club, and active with the Berthoud senior dances. Walt was known for his sweet heart, his sense of humor and his playful spirit. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.
