Police Beat September 1 to 30 Wednesday, Sept. 1 A Mazda Miata was reported stolen from the 700 block of Eighth Street. The vehicle was found in California the following weekend with the front end damaged from a motor vehicle accident. Staff at Ivy Stockwell Elementary requested a School Resource Officer to assist in a juvenile problem at the school. Police responded to an ongoing juvenile problem at the high school. Sunday, August 1 A barking dog at 12:25 a.m. resulted in a written warning to its Sixth Street owner. Police stopped a driver at 1:44 a.m. shortly after he left the ramp from First Street to Highway 287. The driver, a 39-year-old Loveland resident, was cited for DUI and failure to drive in a single lane. The case of the vehicle running in to the building at 919 Mountain Avenue is under investigation. Thursday, July 1 Dog days at the Police Department. In the early morning, 2 a.m., the Loveland Report Herald driver brought in a Jack Russell Terrier. Water bubbling up in a field at SE Second Street and East Colorado Avenue was cause enough for a concerned citizen to report it to authorities. Police turned the matter over to the water department. Tuesday, June 1 This could be described as a “Found Day.” A Bernise Mountain Dog found in the 700 block of Third Street was returned to the owner. A black and white cat found in the 900 block of Longview Avenue went to the Humane Society. A wallet found on West County Road 10E was returned to the owner. Saturday, May 1 A loose Black Labrador Retriever was picked up on East Iowa Avenue. The owner managed to claim the dog before it was turned over to the Humane Society. A reported trespass in progress at Berthoud Elementary School was juveniles on the roof retrieving a ball. Their parents were present and supervising. The traffic stop was at Seventh Street and Bunyan Avenue and the driver was give a verbal warning. Friday, April 2 A driver stopped by police at 3 a.m. was give a verbal warning. Monday, March 1 Police responded to an early morning verbal disturbance in the 200 block of Second Street. The situation was handled by the officer. A report of fraud came in from the 200 block of Victoria Street. The woman had received an email trying to lure her into being a “WalMart Secret Shopper.” This is a well-known fraud and is even profiled on the WalMart website. At 3:03 a.m. police responded to a verbal disturbance at 217 McColm St. David McCullaum reported a theft at his apartment at 1606 Fourth St. A checkbook and other items were taken the day prior to the report. Tuesday, Oct. 13 A Ninth St. resident complained, “Barking dog in the back yard won’t stop.” All was quiet when the officer arrived. Police assisted when an off-duty police officer reported a hit-and-run incident on I-25. Police were unable to locate a careless driver at Berthoud High School. Tuesday, Oct. 6 Police responded to suspicious activity at the First Baptist Church on Bunyan Ave. but found no criminal violation. Several warnings and one summons were issued after traffic stops.
